The soul and the eternal soul

Post by Ross »

Here I am to learn about a Bible topic that I admittedly have never studied in any depth. I am bringing no pre conceived views; and I will base my conclusion upon the evidence provided. Please help me to understand this.

Firstly what is the soul of a man or woman?

Secondly, do other creatures have this?

And thirdly does Bible scripture give any indication that the soul lives on after death and or is immortal?
Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.

My question to you is, who do you understand that "cannot kill the soul" then.
Those who kill the body
I do believe man Cain killed the body and living soul Abel.

I quoted 35 translations that confirm that highly educated Biblical scholars categorically attest to the soul as being the correct word in this verse.

Can you show one that translates as 'spirit'?

If the verse means 'spirit' (God's breath) and not soul as you testify, does this mean that God's spirit is destroyed in Hell as the verse would therefore mean?

Or do you think Jesus said soul but really meant spirit, and then said soul in the second part of the verse and meant soul?
Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.

So, you won't believe what the verse said that, Cain killed Abel?

Yes, I think all Bible translations speaks of "soul" in that verse.
Remember, I don't own the definition, it is the Bible lexicon that define "soul" in both and others.
Maybe I can request you for another verse that support that soul "cannot be killed by man".
Because it seems we discussed only on one "proof text", maybe we find support from context.

Of course. But that's not what you said. You said:

Basically, you cannot make sense of or explain this verse.

You will not address my two logical questions.
Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.

Revelation 6: 9-11
"When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.
They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.
Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.

Is Cain not a man?
And Abel not a living soul? Based on Genesis 2:7.
