Re: My Lord and my God - Shema Trinity
Post #2Maybe nothing. Perhaps it was simply an exclamation of amazement at the resurrection. That the Father had done something amazing and wonderous in raising Jesus from the dead.Wootah wrote: Thomas says, "My Lord and my God."

What did he mean to claim about Jesus?
Jesus himself considered YHVH (the Father), his God. Does God have a God?
My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

What did he mean to claim about Jesus?
........................................................
He had changed his mind about what he had previously believed when the others told him that Jesus had been resurrected. After he had actually seen Jesus, he expressed his new belief that Jesus really had been resurrected.
It may have been an exclamation praising God. These are sometimes in abbreviated form in the Greek (lacking verbs, etc.) because they are commonly-known sayings.
One thing is certain, it wasn't used as an address to Jesus.

I already wrote one of the most likely meanings in my previous post.

Let's assume he was implying that Jesus was God. That adds up to two persons making up the Godhead, not three. It's simply math, not complex theology. Shema duality at best.

To be clear: Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods.

I must assume that knowing is better than not knowing, venturing than not venturing; and that magic and illusion, however rich, however alluring, ultimately weaken the human spirit.

Re: My Lord and my God - Shema Trinity
Post #8The Holy Spirit had not come yet. That would not happen for a little over a month (40 days). At that time He was only promised (by God the Son; see John 14:16-17). So, One, Two, Three. Yep, simple math.Tcg wrote: Let's assume he was implying that Jesus was God. That adds up to two persons making up the Godhead, not three. It's simply math, not complex theology.
Anyhoo...

If it were merely an "exclamation," he would have been directly violating the third Commandment. Jesus would surely have rebuked Thomas for that. Instead, by Christ's silence, we should understand that He accepted Thomas's praise, even approving of it. This was John's intent in writing his Gospel. In John 20, Thomas was worshiping and praising God the Son. Figuratively speaking, He fell on his face and shouted, much as the Israelites did in Leviticus 9.

Re: My Lord and my God - Shema Trinity
Post #9Is this your suggestion that it didn't yet exist? In any case, this passage at best only supports a duality. There is no evidence of a trinity in this passage. You obviously agree by referring to other unrelated passages.

Re: My Lord and my God - Shema Trinity
Post #10This is correct. God is spirit. He will be that which He will be. Make your body a place where the LORD(YHVH) can dwell. I would not call it duality either as Christ being of the same substance as God, did not claim he was God. He just had full indwelling of the God.Tcg wrote:Wootah wrote: Thomas says, "My Lord and my God."
