What is the difference between what ISIS in destroying what they think are pagan sites and the early Christians doing the same?
Is there a difference?

I see no difference. It's basically the same old "Jealous-God" religion flaring up again in the 21st century.
It's sad and scary to see that so many humans are still living in the dark ages where superstition and a belief in an archaic invisible god rules their behavior.

This has been going on back and forth for centuries. Is it worth sending troops in and killing people to prevent?

Post #4Yes, it is no different than requiring a sculpture of ten commandments to be removed from in front of a courthouse, where it has stood for over 100 years.Donray wrote: What is the difference between what ISIS in destroying what they think are pagan sites and the early Christians doing the same?

Post #5Not quite sure that is the point of the question but since you brought it up the Ten Commandments were not destroyed but relocated. It is also a violation of the first amendment. So unless you give equal access to all religions to put up a monument it can't stand. It seems the people of Oklahoma didn't like equal access so they chose to remove theirs. Their choice because they didn't think this was tasteful:bluethread wrote:Yes, it is no different than requiring a sculpture of ten commandments to be removed from in front of a courthouse, where it has stood for over 100 years.Donray wrote: What is the difference between what ISIS in destroying what they think are pagan sites and the early Christians doing the same?

Well I expect you will do something about ISIS now that they have crossed the line for you.
As DtD shows there are plenty of temples around still.

Post #7Difference, no one said to destroy it. There many churches where they could move it.bluethread wrote:Yes, it is no different than requiring a sculpture of ten commandments to be removed from in front of a courthouse, where it has stood for over 100 years.Donray wrote: What is the difference between what ISIS in destroying what they think are pagan sites and the early Christians doing the same?

Also, I take you want a religious state where Allah and his rules apply. Or do you want some other state religion that prosecutes all the other religions.

Yes, the first amendment is a philosophical tenet that is being used to set aside another philosophic tenet. The difference between relocation and destruction is just a matter of degree. It is the competing philosophies that make the actions significant.

No its not a matter of degree. The monuments are not destroyed and are available for all to see save for the ones that went to private collections.

Sure if you want to put it that way. In this case the philosophy says that you can keep your commandments on public display just not on state grounds anyone of the THOUSANDS of churches are free to display it for public consumption. The destruction of monuments is to permanently remove it from public view.It is the competing philosophies that make the actions significant.

So, are you against the first amendment?bluethread wrote: Yes, the first amendment is a philosophical tenet that is being used to set aside another philosophic tenet. I don't understand what you stand for. Are you for separation of state and religion?
Or, do you want to for example Islam pray in public school?
