Middle School Girls Forced Into Lesbian Kiss
Post #1"We are fooling ourselves if we imagine that we can ever make the authentic Gospel popular......it is too simple in an age of rationalism; too narrow in an age of pluralism; too humiliating in an age of self-confidence; too demanding in an age of permissiveness; and too unpatriotic in an age of blind nationalism." Uh, it wouldn't really, it would just be inappropriate.Ooberman wrote:No, that would be against the constitution. They could make me pretend to be a theist, though.East of Eden wrote: To put it in terms even you can understand, would it be OK if little Ooberman was made to pretend to be a Christian in public schools?
More comprehension fail from the ususal suspect. From the link, it was a "presentation on homosexuality and gender identity".But what does religion have to do with date rape (which was what they were teaching about)

Re: Middle School Girls Forced Into Lesbian Kiss
Post #23Well, the idea is that they were meant to ask for a kiss so the other girl could reject it. The idea wasn't to promote lesbianism, but obviously with some middle-schoolers that's where their heads are going to go. When I was in middle-school you couldn't like the color purple without someone calling you gay. That's to be expected unfortunately. But in this context, from what I've read, the request for a kiss wasn't meant to promote homosexuality.East of Eden wrote:
OK fair enough, I acknowledge the difference, but simply asking them to do what to some students is immoral behavior is bad enough. Would it be OK to ask Muslim students to pretend to eat pork?
Now, would I be OK with someone being forced to do something they are not comfortable with? Nope.
The boys and girls were separated because they were dealing with gender specific social issues. While, yes, homosexuality seemed to be addressed (I don't know to what degree), other issues were addressed as well. The boys and girls would have been separated regardless of whether or not issues of sexual orientation were being discussed.East of Eden wrote:So that makes it OK? You WOULD separate the boys and girls if you were going to pretend to engage in gay behavior.
I mean, the controversy here isn't that kids are being talked to about sex in school at 13 or 14 years old. That's been standard practice in the American public school system for decades.East of Eden wrote:That is the line from the school, which has been caught in an embarrassing situation. It seems the students and parents have other ideas. If it was really about respect they wouldn't subject students to this indignity who might think the whole subject of gay sex, or sex at that age, to be inappropriate. This goes far beyond anti-bullying.
I don't think the school is just trying to cover their butts (this article seems to confirm that:http://www.datesafeproject.org/misrepre ... y-red-hook), there were probably things they could have done better (I don't know, I wasn't there), but it seems much of their story has been taken out of context and sensationalized. Simply looking at the very misleading headline of the article you posted seems to indicate that. You have to ask yourself, why would they want to post a headline like that if it's not true? And if they are going to do that, are they a trustworthy source of information? Hmm.
I'm totally for Atheists pretending to be Christians, Christians pretending to be Muslims, straight kids pretending to be gay, etc. If it's to promote an understanding between these groups. Absolutely.

It's really not a big deal. It really, really isn't.East of Eden wrote:Uh, it wouldn't really, it would just be inappropriate.Ooberman wrote:No, that would be against the constitution. Even, God forbid, I had to PRETEND I was something I wasn't...
Your fear of pretend things makes sense... you fear God.

But, I apologize. I shouldn't do anything to get me kicked off of this site. And, maybe apologizing is objectively morally good? I don't know, but I am sorry to make this personal.
Of course, it is personal, since we are talking about individual beliefs, but the larger issue looms: Christianity is irrational.

Post #27First, I notice that EofE again and again starts posts with untrue or heavily misinterpreted stories. Is [strike]lying[/strike] this a true Christian behavior?
Now, if you and your kid thinks that not being homophobic is immoral, you can send him/her to a private school of your choice. It's a free country. Alternatively, you can immigrate to a country where homosexuality is legally forbidden. Iran, you know, has no homosexuals.East of Eden wrote: OK fair enough, I acknowledge the difference, but simply asking them to do what to some students is immoral behavior is bad enough. Post #28It might suit you too, they tolerate Christianity even less than our radical secularists.100%atheist wrote: First, I notice that EofE again and again starts posts with untrue or heavily misinterpreted stories. Is [strike]lying[/strike] this a true Christian behavior?

Post #30Did I? I guess I was wrong, then. It's not a big deal, either.East of Eden wrote: It isn't, you said the same thing to Dianaiad.
I'm sorry if it offends you. I am, however, bound by my "religion" to be truthful when the truth is required. This is a debate forum and I'd like to debate - not see how well we can avoid the hard questions. That's not an argument, just an insult. You're good at that. But, I apologize. I truly believe Christianity is untenable in the age of science, and that it is, and always has been, a psychological issue, and one that is completely explained by a natural process.
Would you care to debate our competing worldviews with evidence and reason?
