Hi everyone. Your old friend sender. Thought I would revisit some old cyber "haunts" and pass some time. Firstly, I come in piece. You'll find I am a kinder, gentler sender than the one you all fell in love with, lol.
I posed this question to myself recently, I mean I really thought long and hard about it, and this is what I asked...what I found...and why I asked it.
First:
Is there God?
Ask this question directly to yourself, I mean hard and seriously. Not for a philosophical debate, but as a one on one question, between you and God, Do you believe he exists?
We'll just deal in absolutes and either answer yes or no.
If your answer is yes, move to the line I have always been in.
If your answer is no, you go in another line and do what happens there.
The yes answers...follow me. Now, I have recently found out I have some major health issues and I am facing going to the hospital for a few days and get it fixed. I could live, die, become paralyzed, whatever.
Also, as I write this, if this problem did its nasty deed anytime from now until I have the procedure, I will die, 100% guaranteed. this is the why I asked the question
Now you know the question, you know the reason, and here is what I found, or actually, just reaffirmed. God literally holds my life in his hands. If my aorta burst, BOOM, my wife will come home and see me dead typing to you guys with keyboard firmly in hand.
Digging deeper on this thought, I concluded aneurysm or totally healthy, God holds every breath in his hands regardless. The "triple A" just made me focus, or I should say, re focus on this fact.
You and I, rather you're in your 20's, 30's or 51 like me, God holds every breath in his hands. Once I realized that, it gave me "peace" that the bible says "surpasses all understanding".
I am very content with that.
Is there God?

I wish I had seen this before now and you already know my answer D.
As you are having surgical procedure, your life is in the hands of the surgeons in the hope to correct this bodily "glitch" and if you DO think that some god is the puppeteer, which one do you reckon it might be?
As it is clear you believe in the "god" concept, how do you know 100% it is the bible version controlling the strings? It may well be Aesculapius or Hygea (god and godess's respectively) getting you through.
Better yet, trust in your own ability to beat it.
As already stated elsewhere, my positive thoughts will be with you, D.

Ok, here is another site, this music is for sale, but don't buy it, I am not here to sell anything. They allow only about half the song to be played. Tell me what songs you want (if any) and I will email them to you. That goes for anyone else too.
I am not here to sell anything, just to brag about my daughter a little, lol.

Also you haven't heard "Claudine", plz go to myspace and username "jiltedloversband".
Off to the hospital...

Yes we'll talk more on the subject at hand in this thread. I am sure the vultures will be out in full force ready to pick my bones, but yeah, sounds fun
If you want to get it jump started, tell me why you believed and now don't

Hi Sender. I vaguely remember seeing some of your posts. It's always good to see former members return.
I'll say one positive thing for religious belief, it does give you a sense of comfort. It's nice to believe that some all powerful deity has the world in his hands and that if it's your time to go it's because God ordained it. It's nice to believe that if one day the world is going to be wiped out it will be because God scheduled it to happen. Even if it's false comfort, even if it's delusion, it's a nice feeling.
By the way, I opt for "no". As comfortable as it may be to believe God has everything in his hands, I would rather look at the world more realistically. I'd rather that mankind worked at improving their environment, working at curing disease and illnesses and improving their chances of survival in this universe, rather than having faith and leaving our destinies up to a deity that most likely doesn't actually exist.
Fight for survival. Don't be complacent. Don't just rely on a God that may not actually come through for you.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Hi Sender,
Sorry about the delay in reply. My Desktop HD decided to "clap it in" and I only got this new one yesterday afternoon. ANY pending replies I had done are now lost.
First up, glad you see you are back on board.
Why I believed. At the time I needed to fill a void that the death of my Grandmother caused. I realise that now.
Why don't I now? Life, death and the whole shebang.
T..xx

So, what did you believe when you said you were a Christian, and what do you believe now?catalyst wrote:Hi Sender,

If you have never doubted the existence of god then you truly have not thought long and hard about it. It is only when we question what we know that we can really reach the truth.Sender wrote:Nope, just saying whats going on in my life. I have never doubted the existance of God.McCulloch wrote: It sounds to me that you are not thinking long and hard, but looking for conformation, comfort and reassurance in the face of your own mortality.
Also, whether god exists or not is not a yes or no answer. In order to answer this I would like you to give me a definite description of "him." Here's the catch, the minute you start trying to describe this so called god he is no longer infinite, when you decribe god as "him" that means that he couldnt be a women, but if he couldnt be a women then he is not all powerful and omnipitent. Or rather if god could onyl be described as a human or living being in general then all assumptions of who god really is would be void. I believe there is something greater than us, but I dont think any one religion has it right, and if they think they do then they are inherently wrong.

Such sweeping statement are not helpful, and thinking you know what one is thinking borders on arrogance.weingro2 wrote:If you have never doubted the existence of god then you truly have not thought long and hard about it.
