If you can only use one word to describe a characteristic of God that we should follow as an example what word would you use?
And why do you choose that word?
How are we to be like God?

Re: How are we to be like God?
Post #171Satan's words, "you will be like God, knowing good and evil."Gen 3:5, Satan tempts Eve to violate God's command though Eve even recited what God had said. To be like God is also Satan's own sin, he had attempted to take God's place. He wants God's creation to be separated from God just like him.onewithhim wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 12:57 pmSatan was getting at something else when he told Eve she could "be like God." He was suggesting that she rule herself, independently from God. She would be like God in that she would be making her own rules.Capbook wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 5:20 amI don't say without God. You are putting yourself in the place of God.Capbook wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2024 4:02 am"To be like God" Do you believe Satan's word?onewithhim wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:14 pmDo I "believe Satan's word." you ask. It's not a case of who believes what. Satan's word came true, because the first humans did get independence from God and made themselves their own masters. They decided to follow their own wills instead of God's. Satan tricked Eve into believing that something good would come from eating from the one tree. He lied, but Adam and Eve did become "like God" in that they dictated for themselves what they would do. Eve thought it meant something else, that they would be equal to God. Satan tricked her, and he has said things that came true but in another aspect. He twists things around. Do YOU believe that Satan lied? Then why castigate me for believing so?Capbook wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 2:22 amSo you believe Satan's word?onewithhim wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 4:07 pmI stand by what I said.onewithhim wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 12:37 pm [Replying to Capbook in post #132]
Satan said that humans could be like God. That means that they would have independence from God and follow their own wills rather than God's.
God give us freewill, to believe or not to believe Him.
God will not enforce His love to us. We will be able to love Him because of His indescribable kindness, goodness, mercy, etc, and also because He first love us.
Do to be independence from God is it "to be like God?"
Is to follow our own will, is it "to be like God?"
Cause for me "to be like God" is;
1Ti 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Ezek 36:27
27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
KJV
Eve fell to what the world has; lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life.
1 John 2:16
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Gen 3:6
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Post #172No, there must be obedience as well. Actually, to believe means more than just simply accepting the fact that something exists. Believing means to accept all of Jesus' actions and words, and as his brother James said:myth-one.com wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 3:51 pmonewithhim wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 2:17 pm People will have to become peaceful and loving and obedient to God. These are requirements for people to be living forever, in harmony with others and even the animals. (Isaiah 11:6-9; Romans 12:2; Colossians 3:9)
No, the one requirement for people to gain everlasting life is to believe in Jesus as their Saviour:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
"What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (James 2:14-20, KJV)

We do good works (keeping the law) because we are already saved, not to be save.
Eph 2:8-10
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Post #175All sins. Just like the demons have committed the ultimate sin of turning away from God, anyone who is not following Jesus is sinning and won't gain everlasting life, just like the demons will not.myth-one.com wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 5:20 pmonewithhim wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 3:14 pmNo, there must be obedience as well.myth-one.com wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 3:51 pmonewithhim wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 2:17 pm People will have to become peaceful and loving and obedient to God. "In fact, to this course you were called, because even Christ suffered for you, leaving you a model for you to follow his steps closely." (I Peter 2:21)
"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." (John 3:36, NASB) Once again, "belief" also requires action. With that belief we must obey Jesus.
