Post by Data »

The question for debate is does hell exist? If so, what does the Bible teach hell is?

Just like Sodom and Gommorrah burned to ashes by real fire, making an example to those who will live ungodly.

2Pe 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
Yes an the example is that the ungodly face destruction (not necessarily by literal fire)

Yes Sodom and Gommorrah was destroyed by literal fire that turned them to ashes, the pattern left does not however concern literal fire.

What do you mean by,"the pattern left does not however concern literal fire."?
Is it not the same to the lake fire for those who lived ungodly?

The lake of fire is not literal. It is symbolic of everlasting destruction, just as is Gehenna and "the fire reserved for the Devil and his angels."

So those whose names are not written in the Book of Life are destroyed by being cast unto a symbol?

Don't you understand what a symbol is? It is amusing that you don't seem to get it. The fire is symbolic for total destruction.

The fire is the cause of death for those cast into it.

If the fire doesn't kill those cast into it, then what kills them?

The second death is an everlasting punishment and total destruction.

The second death is administered by one being cast into a real lake of fire and brimstone.

What is "total destruction"? Wouldn't that mean non-existence? The fire is symbolic for the total destruction of an individual. You ask "then what kills them?" God Himself kills them. It doesn't take much for Him to do that, I think you might agree. All He has to do is will it.

The fire is real, those cast into the fire are quickly and totally destroyed for all eternity by the fire. They will never live again by their choice.
