Lake of fire

Post by achilles12604 »

Question for everyone. The lake of fire referred to by the traditional Christian/ Catholic/ Fundi churches.

Is it literally a lake of fire? It is figurative? Other?
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

2Pe 2:6 and if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and destroyed them by burning them to ashes, making them an example to ungodly people of what is going to happen to them;
The "model" or pattern for the wicked is not the literal fire, the pattern is DEATH.

JW
Lexicon define fire as fire

Yes but the fire in revelation is symbolic fire.

That's symbolic too. The literal fire of Sodom and Gomorrah became a symbol of DESTRUCTION of the wicked.

Exactly, the point of Sodom and Gomorrahwasn't to keep them alive and burning but to destroy them. So the fire became a symbol of DESTRUCTION.

Another real fire that consumed the Captain and the fifty.

2Ki 1:10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

So? So what!?

Il not claiming literal fire does not exist.

So, fire is not a symbolical fire.

The son of perdition.

You and I and any other person who’s been given Godly things, but then becomes haughty in heart; those that deny the scriptural fact that all is of God thereby declaring their FREE WILL as the director of their own destiny.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the
son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Th 2:3-4)

Here we have a second witness; and in, of all places, Ezekiel:

YOU KEEP SAYING, ‘I am a god. I sit on the throne of a god in the heart of the sea.’ BUT YOU ARE ONLY A MAN, not a god, Though in your heart you feel that you are a god. (Eze 28:2)
Capbook wrote: In Phil 2:10, Are those knees that bow know Jesus or not?
Yes. And though not many know him now, once the lake of fire is through with them, they will:

With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world WILL learn righteousness. (Isa 26:9)
The lake of fire is the second death which no one will be resurrected from. If someone is thrown there, they don't still live on. They will be destroyed. The son of perdition will be annihilated. When the Great Tribulation starts, many will learn the truth and side with God and Jesus. They will learn righteousness. It is not the ones thrown into the lake of fire that will learn righteousness. Those individuals will be dead forever.
Those ungodly people will be destroyed by burning them to ashes just like the cities of Sodom and Gommorah.

2Pe 2:6 and if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and destroyed them by burning them to ashes, making them an example to ungodly people of what is going to happen to them;
There is nothing there that suggests that the people in those cities have suffered the second death. Jesus indicated that those people most likely will be resurrected in the coming new world. (Matthew 10:15; Matthew 11:23,24) It is the cities themselves that will be gone forever, not all of the people.
