Are you a creationist?

Post by Wootah »

Hi all,

The thing about creation is that we do it every moment.

- I look at a lump of matter and make it into my wife every day of my marriage.

- Apparently, there is a bunch of atoms that I recognise every day how to get back to and I call it my home.

The day you are not a creationist, you likely have lost your mind.

Are you a creationist? Thoughts?

Tell that to the snowflakes. Just chemicals reacting to their properties. No intelligence needed.
What snowflakes? The ones you named and labelled and so created?
No. Just the ones that form in the cold atmosphere and fall to the ground.

Yep. Where the ground ends the atmosphere starts; conversely, where the atmosphere ends the ground starts. Perfect system. Must be a god decided to have it that way.

I thought some level of literacy or vocabulary were a minimum requirement for debate.

Correct. You actually need to be a creationist to debate. I really do think this thread has value in showing you that reality. Like the clouds being peeled back.

Let the record show that Wootah seems confused about what a snowflake is and even suggests that I have created them. This points to a lack of education, which brings up another point.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog ... e-atheists
The more education a person receives, the more likely they are to become an atheist (1). Non-belief also increases with intelligence and income. Residents of more educated countries see religion as less important in their daily lives (2).

The Santa Claus Analogy
According to a deficient skepticism view, educated people are more capable of critical thought. They subject the claims of religious teachers to more intense skeptical inquiry. This is rather like older children asking themselves how a fat man can navigate a 9-inch chimney flue, magically reemerging next to the Christmas tree with packages measuring more than a foot in three dimensions. Older children connect these absurdities with a pattern of suspicious movements by parents and draw the inevitable conclusion that Santa Claus is a charade perpetrated by parents on children. Younger children are more trusting and less skeptical.

Wootah: "What snowflakes"?

Now you must be a creationist to debate? That doesn't even make sense, yet you call it reality.
This thread has shown more than I think you planned to show.

There does seem to be some confusion. Things (e.g snowflakes) co not exist because any human created them. They are created by natural condition. There is of course no reason now to think that a god designed and made each one. This fact obtains in all nature that we can explain. It's one reason why the 'Watchmaker' fails and all ID fails. We know the difference between the manufactured and the natural, Obviously, we can see the watch in the grass and see that it is manufactured and the grass is not.

There's also the very clear distinction between a creator and a creationist. One makes things, the other believes that natural things were made by a god. Different words, different meanings. I don't see that anyone trying to equate them has a leg to stand on.

When I see you steel man your opponents and debate their points then I think you will have some credit.

To be honest these are deep philosophical issues. I may not be right hence offering the topic for debate. But as I sit on my kitchen and look at different objects, creation really seems pretty important.

One of my favourite far side cartoons is a Western setting and a gun slinger says to a man on the roof, ' I hear you're pretty handy with a gun.' And the man on the roof is using the gun as a hammer fixing the roof.

Comedy aside it shows that our words do create the purpose for the object.

How do you ‘peel’ a cloud, exactly? Or do you mean something different?
