Inviting everyone on earth to join them

Post by JehovahsWitness »

As of tomorrow (Mch 18th 2017) through to the actual events Jehovah's Witnesses will be inviting people to join them on April 11th to commemorate the death of Jesus.

My question is:

- do you object to attending religious services of this kind on principle?
- do you think anything could be gained from attending an annual commemoration of Jesus' death? If so what?

Yes, I object to placing Jesus on such an extreme pedestal. Especially in a religious context. And especially if he's going to be proclaimed to be the "savior" of all mankind.
JehovahsWitness wrote: - do you think anything could be gained from attending an annual commemoration of Jesus' death? If so what?
No. The only thing that could possibly come from this is to create a religious movement that holds Jesus (and Christianity in particular) as supposedly having something to do with an imaginary jealous God character that has never been demonstrated to be anything more than a very immoral myth created by an ancient barbaric male-chauvinistic society. And that religion actually holds Jesus up as the icon of religious bigotry.

So no, the only thing that could be gained from this is to support religious bigotry and ancient superstitious mythologies.

I would much rather attend a commemoration of our scientific discoveries and discuss what we plan to do about our degrading environment.

Religion is nothing more than a totally wasteful distraction from the truly important issues. In fact a commemoration of the death of Jesus would most likely also spark totally wasteful and meaningless conversations concerning the utterly absurd superstitions that he might come back and "save us" from the very problems we are ignoring whilst we worship this imaginary superstitious character.

Religion is not only a waste of everyone's time, but it's actually quite dangerous in that it distracts us from truth in favor of supporting ancient superstitious tales that are clearly and demonstrably false.

Supporting religion is no different from supporting ignorance.

Thank you for asking. :D

Thank you for your frank reply. So I take it if you receive one of these invitations (that looks like this) you won't be going...

In reply to your post we do honour Jesus but do not view him as in any way equal to JEHOVAH.

Noble endevors of course. But God's Kingdom promises to rectify the degredation of the planet since it ultimately belongs, not to God but to man. Revelation speaks of God "bring to ruin those ruining the earth"!

I don't object, I just don't see any point in attending religious rituals. Can't see any benefit in it.

I can't see how anything would be gained, rather than to socialise with likeminded people.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

I can't imagine why I should care how you view Jesus or Jehovah. If Jesus was Jehovah's "sacrificial lamb" paid as a ransom to Satan then Jehovah is a pretty desperate God and apparently Satan is quite a threat to him.

By the way your brochure claims to be about peach, health, and prosperity, when clearly this is all just a front for meeting that is ultimate going to be preaching ancient barbaric superstition about imaginary God. In particular about a God supposedly named Jehovah that is so extremely jealous and petty that the Jehovah's Witnesses are apparently frightened to death to even suggest that anyone might be "equal" to Jehovah.

I would call that a religion based on pure superstitious fear. Fear based on the idea that if you fail to praise this God to the highest above all else he will hatefully turn his evil wrath upon you. Otherwise why could you possibly care about appeasing such a huge ego?

Talk is cheap. Let me know when he actually DOES something about it.

In the USA both Obama and Hillary Clinton were promising to respect human dignity and support programs with the goal of healing the damage humans have already done to the earth.

But God allowed Donald Trump to become POTUS. Donald Trump is doing his best to abolish the EPA and dismiss the science of climate change. He's giving a green light to greedy corporations to start polluting freely again like they did back in the 40's, 50's, and early 60's. Donald Trump is promising to make America the GREAT polluter again.

Also, according to the superstitious authors of the Bible God himself places everyone in their position of authority. So apparently we can thank God for putting Donald Trump in charge of America.

So when exactly does this fairy tale God plan on bringing to ruin those who are ruining the earth?

If this God exists and is omniscient of the thoughts we have then he already knows that I'm 100% backing the ecology and care of planet earth. No need to attend any services.

If the Jehovah's Witnesses want to make a difference in the world let them conduct an anti-Trump protest. :D

That would be far more useful, and it would also demonstrate to any eavesdropping God that we object to polluting the earth.

If all you do is go pray to God then all you are basically doing is "complaining" to your God that he's not keeping his promises in a timely fashion.

It you "truly believed" in this God you'd just stay home and say, "I trust that Jehovah will take care of everything as he promised". The very idea that you need to hold services to keep bothering him for not keeping his promises can hardly do any good.

Apparently he's going to do what he's going to do no matter how many complaint services you hold. :D

Well personally I'm a Christian and I do believe Christ's promises. This is why this April 11 2017 we will commemorate his death.

I don't have much confidence in politicians but I do believe in God.

Have you seen any signs or indications at all that this God is bringing ruin to those who are ruining the earth? :-k

It would seem to me that the current state of affairs, at least in the USA, is only getting worse in terms of ruining the earth.

So why do you believe in a God who isn't doing what you yourself suggested he's supposed to be doing?
