I am told that the Catholic church teaches against contraception yet promotes abstinence in fertile periods for the female...isn't that contraception?
Personally I favor abortion as a women's choice and think it would be acceptable behavior to God under the right circumstances....an unwanted child...single parent...rape....young parent without parenting skills....child with deformity or other problems who would have a life of suffering.....It is a tough subject however, and should be left to the parents and not a group of men in funny clothes.

Abstinence and the 'withdrawal method' are on the approved list.

Those who practice the “rhythm method” and “withdrawal method” of birth control are known as . . . . . . . .

Condoms are not 'natural'. Therefore, they are on the forbidden list.Onorc wrote:I am not really familiar with the Catholic religion, do they promote condoms as well or are they also against them?
There are groups that have been critical against the Catholic Church because they don't even like the use of condoms for disease control , to prevent STD's.

Most Catholics from economically advanced countries, hypocritically in my opinion, ignore the teaching of the infallible Pope on this issue. Condom use among average Catholics is not that much lower than among non-Catholics in affluent and educated populations. Where the Catholic faith does its most harm is in less affluent and less educated populations which are more inclined to believe what the Church teaches.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

I agree with you. I have done some research on this topic and find that the Catholic Church teaches that contraception in any form is forbidden by God. That contraception "takes God out of the birth process" and therefore birth control pills and condoms are strictly forbidden as sinful....however, they promote abstaining from sex during fertile periods for the female....so I would argue that this is a distinction without a difference....taking God out of the birthing process by abstinence...if God is in charge of the birth, then let it rip and whatever happens happens....???
This is all typical Catholic hypocrisy...I just think they want to increase birth rates to get more "customers".

The natural methods you refer to are derived from Aquinas' natural law. Pulling out is acceptable ONLY IF you don't blow it

Condoms and birth control are not found to be acceptable because the point is to be able to ejaculate without the "natural" consequences and this is a no-no. Sex without the intent to procreate has been looked down upon since 4th century Christianity.

I understand that the Church is against condom use, but shouldn't Catholic Priests be encouraged to use them when having sex with children?goat wrote:Condoms are not 'natural'.
