Is it evidence for or against religions if they came from America?
For instance Mormonism and Jehovah's Witnesses. Are there more? Scientology. Any more?
I would argue it is evidence against the religion because America has quite literally nothing the to do with the Bible. What other evidence flows from a religion coming from America?

And names like 'Peter' that Jesus never knew or used, they're ok for you as well I guess, although I would always think of Simon BarJonas as 'Cephas', because that's what Jesus called him.
If your God guided your translators to use names that Jesus never knew himself, then I guess you accept other churches doing the same. OK?
Jesus told them Gods name-John 17:6 and promised to keep on making his Fathers name known. John 17:26

Post #152Jesus does not tell them God's name in 17:6
17:5} And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. {17:6} I have manifested thy
name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
Where exactly was the name 'Jehovah' first found, in what document?

Jesus said--i have manifested thy(Father) name to them. Obviously taught them Gods name.

Re: How many religions came from America?
Post #154But he never spoke the name there....... I'm interested to discover where Jesus spoke the name 'Jehovah' and I can't find it. Obviously you have a similar problem because you haven't directed me to any such verse.
But that verse does tell everybody what Jesus called God... He called him 'Abba' in his own language ....Father. And in the Galilee where they spoke Eastern Aramaic the word for 'son of' was 'Bar' and so Jesus was Bar Abba, Son of the Father. Or so I can guess from my studies.

He didnt have to speak the name there, It shows he did speak the name to them.

Re: How many religions came from America?
Post #156True.......... Jesus spoke the name, but what was the name, and where can you show your version of the name in the gospels?
I just do not understand how YHWH can become 'Jehovah', kjw47.
I know some Scandinavians and Germans (and Gaelics!) on another forum, so I must ask them how God is spelled in their gospels. I'll bet that it's different to the KJV gospels, for example.
No, I can't see how any Christians would be excluded from their heaven just because they spoke the name of the Abrahamic God differently...... that seems to be most unlikely.

Post #157They aren't 100% sure YHWH is correct. It could be YHVH. Re: How many religions came from America?
Post #158Who are 'they'? It would seem to me that God has not been entirely clear about a name, then.
But 'they' don't actually know for sure what it is. Can you see why different languages just use their own name for God?Its a guarantee God has made his name known, and Jesus promised to keep on making it known.
Maybe your Abrahamic Devil has been more successful than thought........ all those different names for God and nobody is sure which is right.

Re: How many religions came from America?
Post #160OK....That's what you think, but so far you haven't be able to show me where he told you that name.
I wonder when the name 'Jehovah' was first written down? But I haven't seen that....not in the bible.
How long have you been a JW? I'm guessing that you are middle age...47yrs? And I guess that your initial is K. Is that right?
