The meek inherit ?

Post by Bobcat »

Christians think the meek inherit the earth but in truth the meek shall inherit the land.

Christians misunderstand scripture!

If you wish to inherit the land you must be freed by the son and walk in the law of the LORD.

The land is not the earth either.

Do you or have you ever walked in the law of the LORD?

It can also mean human society, as one of your own lists shows. See Genesis 11:1. Do animals have "one language" with humans?
One of the list is "land inhabitants" and not "human society."
"People" as one of earth's inhabitants, why not change "human society" to people?
OK, I'll change "human society" to "people."
Good, did you not go beyond your Governing Body's belief then?
No, not at all. How do you surmise that I am going beyond the GB's belief?
Because "human society" is your interpretation of land inhabitants.
While "all people" would be an acceptable as one of the land inhabitants.
The land inhabitants of Genesis 11:1 that speak a language are humans. Animals don't speak a language such as is referred to in the verse. I don't know what else you are trying to say. I haven't "gone beyond my Governing Body's belief."
Do it happen in the Bible that animal speaks?
Animals can't speak. There were a couple in the Bible that speak, a snake in the GoE, controlled by Satan, and the donkey that Barak was riding, and that was a miracle of God. No other animals speak like humans.
You have just given examples of animals that spake.
Do God don't have the power to let animals speak?
I just said that God made the donkey speak.

I believe what @onewithhim is trying to say, is that animals cannot talk... with a human voice, as the Bible says... a speechless donkey spoke with human voice. 2 Peter 2:16
The angels can make the animal speak, in the sense that they can become the voice for that animal - making the animal appear to speak.

This is obvious from the fact the the serpent's brain did not register the thoughts expressed at Genesis 3.
In other words, the snake did not think to say to Eve... "Did God really say that?"
These were all the words of the wicked angel - Satan the Devil, and what he did, is use an animal, to make it appear as if the animal is talking, while he remained hidden.

Likewise, the angel standing in front of the donkey, gave the donkey a voice, by making it appear as though the donkey was really speaking.
Why the man did not get a fit, beats me. :)

Furthering the OP's sentiments: It's a wonderful thought to me that God has created this planet for us to live on (Isaiah 45:18) and his plans for us have not changed, even though Adam disobeyed. We get to live on this earth forever, in paradise conditions! Is this not a fantastic future for humans? Imagine---cocktails by the pool.

Uh... No spirits for me, and I certainly won't be chewing on no cock tails. :D ...but yes, the earth is beautiful.
I can just see it now, when there is no pollution, and there is just purity everywhere.

Can you imagine God making worlds more beautiful than earth?
The universe is vast, but it's probably best I don't let my imagination run wild. :D

The important thing is to qualify as one of the meek ones, that will inherit the earth, and delight themselves in abundant peace, forever. Psalm 37:11

Did jesus mean to say, the land, instead of the earth? Matthew 5:5; Matthew 6:10
Perhaps he made an error.

No, Jesus is not in error, "earth" Greek word "ge" in Mat 5:5, 6:10 defined by lexicon as "arable land, the main land as opposed to water, and etc.

γῆ gē
Thayer Definition:
1) arable land
2) the ground, the earth as a standing place
3) the main land as opposed to the sea or water
4) the earth as a whole
4a) the earth as opposed to the heavens
4b) the inhabited earth, the abode of men and animals
5) a country, land enclosed within fixed boundaries, a tract of land, territory, region

The "land" and the "earth" are the same. Living forever on the "land" is the same as saying we can live forever on the earth. The words for both are the same in the Hebrew. For example, in Psalm 37:11 it says that the meek will inherit the "earth." In Psalm 37:29 the exact same word is translated by the King James translators as "land." Both are the same word in Hebrew, as I see in the Interlinear Bible translated by J.P. Green. The King James translators thought it correct to render the "earth" at Matthew 5:5 and Matthew 6:10 as "earth" because that is what Jesus meant, according to the Interlinear Bible in Greek, and according to the context.

So, those verses you've quoted above does not interpret earth as human society then?

And new earth is not land?
Through context, as God make all things new(Rev 21:5), new heaven and new earth (Rev 21:1), if earth is human society, how would God give the fountain of the water of life?(Rev 21:6)
Can a fountain Greek word "pege" defined as spring, not from the land?
Or you have another meaning of fountain in lexicon?

πηγή pēgē

1) fountain, spring
2) a well fed by a spring

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

The new earth does have the meaning of land. Jehovah will renew the earth, cleaning it up to its original pristine beauty. There is also a double meaning. The earth will be a new population of God-loving people, with all the wicked gone. The "heavens" will be a new government, God's Kingdom by Christ. The heavens wouldn't mean a new universe with all the trillions of stars and planets being destroyed. So the meanings of a new society of people and a new government are what makes sense.
