Was Jesus a Jew? Or is he God? How can he be both?
To see Jesus as God, it seems to me we need to wrench him out of his Jewish context and culture.
Otherwise, where in Judaism, (even the Judaism of Jesus own day) is it believed or taught that God "incarnates Himself" into human form?
Was Jesus a Jew? Or is he God?

Was Jesus a Jew? Or is he God?
Post #1 My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

Jaheshua was a Jew. The same Jew spoken of in this passage:Elijah John wrote: Was Jesus a Jew? Or is he God? How can he be both?

He's the Son of man, as he described himself, following the will and words of YHVH, as he chose to do.
YHVH incarnating himself is not taught, ever in the Hebrew faith. In many pagan faiths it is taught that a god assumes human form. If a follower of Christ wants to know what to do as a believer and follower of the Way, just read the 4 gospels and see what Yeshua told his followers to do. Write it down under headings after you write all he says to do. Also, forget the newer notion of God changing or changing his mind(about his rules). He is the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow. The Tanakh is clear that this never happens. Forget the rest of the NT until this is firm in your mind.

And the term "Son of God" means different things to different people. What does the term mean to you?

Yes, Jesus was a Jew.
Yes, is God.
The second claim requires us to wrench him out of every cultural context. Even the cultures that deified their leaders, such as Emperor worship among the Romans, didn’t think of their Emperor as God the way that orthodox Christians say that Jesus is God. No culture had anything like it, many would call it madness, and it remains the bedrock of orthodox Christianity. The idea that Jesus is Capital “G God is, as Kierkegaard put it, “the strangest of all things.

Re: Was Jesus a Jew? Or is he God?
Post #6OK, so you seem to be saying that Jesus, though a Jew, transcends Judaism. I agree, to a degree. But I see it as Jesus transcending Judaism with his teachings, making them a bit more universal, and emphsizing the moral over the ceremonial and purity laws.bjs wrote: [Replying to Elijah John]

You, on the other hand, seem to be saying that Jesus very being transcends the notion that he was "merely" a human Jewish teacher. Correct me if I misunderstand what you are saying.
But still, I would ask you this. Where does Judaism ever teach that God would incarnate Himself into human form?

Re: Was Jesus a Jew? Or is he God?
Christ is the literal Son of God, born from God, the firstborn over all creation, the heir of all God's Kingdom. He also became a flesh and blood man, born from a woman (Mary), no other father except God.
He is the ONLY begotten Son; though we are given the right to become sons (to be adopted as sons, via holy spirit).
(He is also a Son in the following senses as well: He loves His enemies: Matthew 5:45-48; He does the will of His Father, even over His own will: Luke 22:42; He is the perfect reflection of His Father: to see Christ is to see God: John 14:7)
Peace again to you,
your servant and a slave of Christ,

He is not God (JAH) Himself. He is the Messiah, the Son of God.
Jesus is not the Father, but Jesus is fully God. We get this from Col 2:9 and John 1:1, 1:14; Phil 2:6
9 "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."
1 "and the Word was God . . and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us."
6 "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:"

Some possible verses that I see that could speak to God incarnating would be:
1. Isaiah 9:6, where the child born will be called "mighty God,"
2. Psalm 110 where David says "the Lord said unto my Lord" speaking about a figure that would judge the world (seemingly the Messiah, who is elsewhere said to be a descendant of David). One needs to explain why David would call his own descendant "my Lord".
3. Micah 5:2 where the Messiah is said to be one "whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."
1. Isaiah 9:6, where the child born will be called "mighty God,"

♦EXPLANATION: Jesus is indeed called "Mighty God" but he is never called Almighy God, a title uniquely attributed to YHWH (Jehovah) indicating while Jesus is mighty he remains separate and inferior to his Father.
