When the Gospel's were written, they were written for particular communities. These communities did not have access to the whole canon of the New Testament, at least not when their particular Gospels were first circulated.
So it is doubtful, for example, that the Markan community had access to the Gospel of John. Certainly not, at least, in the years between the Gospel of Mark, (roughly 60 AD) and the Gospel of John (around 90 AD).
For debate...were the prayers of Matthew, Mark and Luke's communities answered?
If so, why do you suppose they were? After all, it is unlikely they prayed "in Jesus name". (as that concept was introduced with the Gospel of John, some 30 years later)
If praying "in Jesus name" is essential to answered prayer, why didn't "Matthew", "Mark" or "Luke" teach it? Why didn't their Jesus teach it?

Did Matthew, Mark and Luke's communities
Post #1 My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

"amen" is the equivalent of "so be it". It was a comon ending of all prayer(especially Isreal) Selah was the other. Its definition is unsure but most believe it means "pay attention here". I pray to YHVH only, as thats how I was taught. I recognize Christ as the savior but as he instructed, I pray to Yahweh only. God knows my prayers are true even if as some have preposed, I have dialed the wrong number or jumped in line. God knows to whom you desire audience, books and priest don't.

Peace to you brian,
Prayer is indeed reserved for JAH (for God) alone. Christ taught us to pray to God (His Father); I also pray to God.
Peace again to you, and to your household,
your servant and a slave of Christ,

I believe that Jesus said that if we pray (ask) for anything in his name it will be granted. Does this work for winning lottery tickets?
It's really a fictional claim isn't it?

I remember that one. I seem to also remember he was talking to his disciples. Although, the Powerball wouldn't hurt my feelings any. Much of what he said(of this nature) was directed to those closest to him then. He never said what ever you and future believers ask will be granted.

QUESTION: Where exactly did Jesus limit this to only his apostles? Or is that only your opinion?brianbbs67 wrote: [Replying to post 33 by polonius]

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it.

Its limited by his audience. He didn't say this in public or the synagogue. He said it privately to his disciples. Its not logical that God will grant every request of every believer. With all the different beliefs, that would be chaos on earth.polonius wrote:QUESTION: Where exactly did Jesus limit this to only his apostles?
