The following writing seems to address the status of the Book of Revlation accurately.
REVELATION: Fact or Fiction?
March 27, 2011 by Derrick Garland Coy
Recently I was watching MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on his show, The Last Word, when, in responding to a rival TV host who claimed that the Japanese earthquake and tsunami were evidence of the last days as depicted in the book of Revelation, he retorted, “The book of Revelation is a work of fiction that describes how a truly vicious God would bring about the end of the world. No half-smart religious person actually believes the book of Revelation anymore. Those people are certain that their God would never turn into a malicious torturer and mass murderer beyond Hitler’s wildest dreams.
Opinions (with evidence please).
Is the book of Revelation fact or fiction?

The book of Revelation has everything to do with "end time prophecy" .EBA wrote: The book of Revelation has nothing to do with "end-time prophecy;" it is "The revealing of JESUS CHRIST"
God Bless.
It was primarily written for us living in "the Lord's day" which we (Jehovah's Witness) believe started in 1914 and continues to our present time. We have already seen, according to our interpretation, many of the events prophecies fulfilled in the late 19th and early 20th century and others we believe are being fulfilled before our very eyes. The climax of the book of Revelation (the destruction of the wicked and the establishment of peace on earth under one world goverment) is, we believe yet in the (near) future.

An invisible Second Coming???
Post #23http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1800s.php
In 1876, Russell became interested in time prophecy, after reading a copy of Barbour's publication Herald of the Morning. The end had not come in 1874, as the Adventists had predicted. However, Barbour explained that Matthew 24:27 meant Jesus' invisible presence commenced in 1874, the rapture would be 1878, and the end of the world was to occur in 1914. (See Watch Tower, 1906 July 15 for a detailed account.)
In Russell's doctrinal chronology the most important dates were 1874 and 1914:
"The chapter in SCRIPTURE STUDIES, Vol. II, showing the parallels between the Jewish and Christian Dispensations, makes prominent four dates, viz., (1) October, 1874; (2) April, 1878; (3) October, 1881, and (4) October, 1914;" Watch Tower 1911 June 15 p.190
However, Jesus was supposed to have said:
Matthew 24:30 Jesus said,
“And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will beat themselves in lamentation, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Evidently then according to the Bible, Jesus was wrong.

The book of revelations is a work in the wide genera of Apolitical literature popular in its age, fact or fiction the book had meaning for the people it was written for or to. Today we really can't say what the message of the author was. But it is a beautiful example of revelatory literature and that's a fact.

Yet. I hasn't happened YET. That event to which Jesus referred to at Matthew 24:30 is, I believe, yet in the future. Only at the end of time can one declare what Jesus said to be "a lie"; until then all one can say is it hasn't happened "yet".
To which I reply the fat lady has yet to sing.

God Bless.
If that is true, why do you suppose both Peter and Paul received that revelation?
Also, Why has that "day" lasted 104 years, so far?
Peace.

The best response I can give to everyone is, the one I was given.
"It is not given for you to know these things"
Christ , himself , did know know the hour or day. In fact, no one in Heaven does. Speculating is fun, but in this case will lead to nothing. We have been told so.
The end will come, because we had a beginning. Be right with the Lord and worry not. Even though it comes.
