Jesus was simply teaching people how to live in the presence of the Lord , as living in the kingdom of God. He was Teaching how to live in the kingdom of God.
I had a dream last night that I was above it all , in total peace of mind. But Waking up was like a fall, falling into the reality of my day to day cares.
I'm thinking Jesus was teaching us how to live in that world above our cares when we are awake.
agree or disagree: Jesus was trying to teach people how to live above their worldly cares.
Jesus was teaching people how to live with God.

Post #2The lesson he taught in the parable of the Good Samaritan, was to help others with their worldly cares. In fact, this story applauds a willingness to give up that which gives you worldly ease for the sake of another.dio9 wrote:

If your question was, "Do people use Jesus' teachings to ignore reality?", the answer would be undoubtedly, "Yes". Was that Jesus' intention? It doesn't look like it to me.

Post #3I agree completely. That, at least, was a big part of Jesus teaching. Kingdom values, higher standards above the standards of the world. That the Father provides, comforts those who mourn, and sides with the underdog. "The first shall be last, and the last shall be first" That life is more than the accumulation of wealth, and social status.dio9 wrote: Jesus was simply teaching people how to live in the presence of the Lord , as living in the kingdom of God. My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

Post #4So are you saying that Jesus wanted believers live by "higher standards" than atheists? Who or what are you referring to as "the world"?Elijah John wrote:. Kingdom values, higher standards above the standards of the world.

Re: Jesus was teaching people how to live with God.
Post #5Higher than Gentiles, higher than some of his fellow Jews, higher than some of the Pharisees and Saducees. Jesus doesn't really get into the subject of atheism... in his Theistic culture, belief in God in general was a given.JehovahsWitness wrote:So are you saying that Jesus wanted believers live by "higher standards" than atheists? And regarding neighboring cultures ("Gentile", "Pagan"), they too had their "gods"...false gods yes, but they were not atheists per se.
If we extrapolate to todays "world" I suppose Jesus would include popular, secular culture as the perpetuators of non-Kingdom values. At least popluar culture in it's more degenerate expression.
I doubt he was speaking about non-JWs as those having lower standards.

Funny you should mention atheists. I know some atheists who seem to have higher standards values, than some Christians. At least in practice.
So having said all that, what is your point with the thought-provoking question? Not sure if I'm missing your point.

So it doesn't apply to anyone today? I mean no group can say that because of Jesus' teaching they live by higher standards than another?

Its just your words sounded as if you were suggesting this expression was in any way relevant today in the 21st century. Can you clarify that "Jesus teaching. Kingdom values, higher standards above the standards of the world" but of course that is not the case for anyone today.Elijah John wrote: That, at least, was a big part of Jesus teaching. If this helps to clarify, yes, I think Jesus words, and his call for us to higher standards are still applicable to us today.
I was also attempting to provide a context for his times.

Post #8So if a person were to apply Jesus words today (2018) that person would subsequently have "higher standards" than those that don't apply Jesus' words?Elijah John wrote:

Do you think there are any people (today) that actually have applied Jesus' words and therefore presently have "higher standards" than those that don't apply Jesus' words (I think you called them "the world")?

You honestly believe that those that don't follow Jesus standards live by a lower standard than those that do? You call those that don't live by Jesus standards "the world"? Are you comfortable with this "higher" and "lower" catagorizing of people's standards?
I'm not judging if you are comfortable with viewing people with lower standard "the world" that's fine, that's your belief system and each one has his or her own "religion" by religion I mean system of belief.
