This Generation Will Not Pass Away:

Jesus talks about the destruction of the temple and signs of the end times in Matt. 24:1-35:

1 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things? he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us, they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?

4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a] spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.

22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.

26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[c] will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.[d] 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Verse 34 has been the subject of many a debate. My questions are as follows:

What did Jesus mean when he said "this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened?" Who is "this generation"?

a generation, 70 years
Jesus said "this generation", referring to one that was then present, and would remain until all was fulfilled.

He did not say "that generation", referring to a 70 year one that began 2000 years later.
The last generation, the generation when "all was fulfilled" would be the generation present at the "end of the age"/"end time" (Daniel 12:9-13), and would include the "wicked", who would not understand. Being a follow of Paul, and a sinner, being numbered among the "wicked", what makes you think you have any understanding of what the prophets of God say? I would think that your actions speak volumes against you, and with the "many", your "broad" "way" appears to lead to "destruction" (Mt 7:13).
It's not about "the last generation" but about "this generation".

RESPONSE: Elsewhere, Jesus makes this clear that the generation he is speaking about is his generation:

For example:English Standard Version
Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.

Of course there are some fundamentalists who cannot admit that there are such errors in the Bible. ;)
He did not say "my generation", but "this generation".

Of course there are some posters who cannot admit they make such errors in their understanding of the Bible.

It's not about "the last generation" but about "this generation".
The "generation" referred to in Daniel 12:9-12, is the "generation" of the "end time"/"end of the age". Which would be the last generation, when all is fulfilled, such as in the "awesome day of the LORD" (Joel 2:31 -Joel 3:2), when there will be "survivors" "on mount Zion and in Jerusalem", after I "restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem" (Joel 3:1), and you will experience the "valley of judgment", such as judgment day, Har-Magedon (Joel 3:2) & (Zech 14:4) & (Rev 16:18). A "day when the "heavens and earth will tremble" (Joel 3:16), and the "cities of the nations fell" (Rev 16:18). "This generation"/"race" refers to the the generation when the fig tree puts forth "its leaves". The day of the LORD is represented by the 7th day of the week, the 7th millennium, which is apparently, according to the parable of the fig tree, upon us. What follows, is the 8th day, the day of the lake of fire, the holy day for most "Christians", who have the mark of the beast, and his dragon.

I have never seen anyone stuff so many scriptural references into one paragraph. It takes a real skill to do so without any reasoning as to what each element is, how they are related and what rationale is employed to justify each separate conclusion.
As the bible says "The Sabbath shall be holy" and thus "the seventh bowl" will be "like clay and iron" to be fulfilled when the "new Jerusalem" which like the cursed "fig tree" that will as "dust on a scale", like Eve and Jehoboam, disceived by the"millstone thrown into the sea" by the two horned beast. Which will be recieved by Judas in the last day when the Tabernacle is thrown into the Red Sea by the Great Prophet.
Actually its kinda fun to randomly link scriptures.

You are confusing up with down, darkness with light, and good with evil. There is no "Sabbath shall be holy" with regards to your religion. Your religion follows the road laid down by the beast with two horns like a lamb, Constantine, and his false prophet Paul. Your "broad" "way" (Mt 7:13) leads to "destruction" for the "many". Your scripture is built upon the testimony of the false prophet Paul, whereas you take his foundational tripe, and build upon it with his appointed leaders and teachers. You hymn and haw, but truth eludes you. You think you are among the 144,000, who have no lie on their tongue, but the mark you carry, is the one that results in one having to drink from the cup of the wrath of God (Rev 14:10). Tick tock.

Are not "some standing here" of Jesus' generation?

Post by polonius »

Matthew 16:28
Douay-Rheims Bible
Amen I say to you, there are some of them that stand here, that shall not taste death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Luke 9:27
Douay-Rheims Bible
But I tell you of a truth: There are some standing here that shall not taste death, till they see the kingdom of God.

So clearly Jesus was referring to Jesus’ generation not some future generation.
Of course, it never happened, it is one of a number of “God breathed biblical errors.

Some fundamentalists try to ignore these passages claiming that Jesus meant some future generation. He meant his own and he was obviously wrong.

I am not sure you know how to think. Your church doctrines, which include the 144,000, are a bit skewed, but apparently you are "anointed", and a member of the 144,000, or you are a hanger on, such as the so called the "other sheep". I will have to admit, that by your church standards, you would be apparently included among the "other sheep", on face value, but I would guess you claim to be "anointed", as you are so full of bluster, yet short on truth. Somewhat like a mini Paul. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jehovah%2 ... _salvation Since you spoke of partaking of the last supper, according to the above reference, you consider yourself one of the 144,000.

But as to the topic, it is with regards to the "day of the LORD" when all these things will be accomplished (Mt 24:34). It is in that day, that the 144,000 are marked, so as to have the "seal of God" (Rev 7:3) & (Rev 9:4), so that no harm/torment should befall them. The dead have no need to be protected from the "locusts" (Rev 9:3).

While John may have died, he did not taste death, for he would "remain until I come", but be under the physical limitation of living only 120 years. (John 21:23) Possibly a transfer of Spirit via the means used by Elijah to Elisha. But go on and hang on to your presumptions. We surely wouldn't want you to see the light and be healed.
