Does porn cause harm?

Post by juliod »

It's been a long time since I've debated pornography. But it used to be a staple during my early internet days.

Some posters here occasionally refer to porn as it it were understood to be a Bad Thing. So I think we should debate the point.

My claim is that porn has been studied extensively since the 70's, and the harm attributable to porn is still zero.

I think it's pretty obvious that the understanding of something is always evolving, we're no machines.

I don't ignore science when it conflicts with scripture. I meant there is people that do. Simple example, religious that don't want BB and Evolution theory to be teached in schools.
If you don't ignore science, then your interpretation of the bible should be always be changing.

The more answers you get, the more questions raised. So, be confused is a good sign of being learning.

I understand the page your on, but unfortunately, to many people change the scripture to meet the current society (not change, but adapt) and then they wonder why confused people like me continue to be confused. Unless Christ specifically said, in His own words that we could alter His dictates to fit the current society, then we cant. If we don't take it literally, then we end up where we are now;;;; Everyone with a different interpretation of what this means and what that means. Unfortunately, the flip side of this is if we take it literally, it makes no sense. Lose lose situation. I can no more interpret the bible than I can predict the future. But science I can grasp. It is reasonable.
What we do for ourselves dies with us,
What we do for others and the world remains
and is immortal.

-Albert Pine
Never be bullied into silence.
Never allow yourself to be made a victim.
Accept no one persons definition of your life; define yourself.

-Harvey Fierstein

No one told us this is easy. There always be that existential void, irreductible uncertainity. The lonely action of watching something implies a risk.
We can agree that as everything is interpreted, based on our experience, resources and subjetivity, no one has the answer.
To grasp science is also your decision. If you say you grasp science, science proves there's no problem in lust and then you come and say 'But Jesus especifically said...', then... Houston, we got a problem. Or just when science strikes religion, you first choose religion side until is beaten by KO.
I think how much you believe in religion or science is your decision and should be respected.
