I grew up in a Republican household. Dad was a Hard Core Marine and avid O'Reilly viewer. He always told me that we were a Republican family and that they always look out for the working class and especially military. Now that I am a little older and concerned with politics, I see this may have been true back then (80s) but not so much now. The Republicans were the championed defenders of the military and DOD in general. Today, they are holding our paychecks hostage to negotiate against the Democrats. Democrats are now the champions of the middle class and military, while the Republicans are champions of the rich.

Have the Republicans changed their stance?
Do they care about military over the rich?
What is the reason behind this observation?
Were the Republicans really champions of the military back in the 80s?
Was I just fed BS in my youth?

Possibly the republicans have always been solely pro-rich. As long as the military were useful to the rich the military were supported.

It's like having a job. You get paid 40,000 dollars for as long as the boss can make 41,000 dollars out of having you do stuff for him. When he can't make any money out of having you round, you get fired.

I don't know why the rich might think they don't need the military any more. Different economic model, I guess.

Good point. What I gather from your post is that we never were favored unless needed to accomplish the goals of the rich. How long do you think this has been going on?

Oh yeah. I have several and I think how cheap it is to make against what I did to get it. At the same time the accolades make it seem deepthroatable!

I think I probably meant human history. I'm a Brit so I don't know nearly as much as perhaps I should about US politics, but somethings are the same everywhere.

I think that Repubs were more military and middle class up until the early 90s. Then in the Bush admin, they seemed to be, now they have made an about face.
