Lesbian Says Gay Marriage is a Lie to Destroy Marriage

"Gessen shot out of the gate by stating that “it’s a no-brainer that gays and lesbians should be allowed to marry. But then she immediately followed this up with, “I also think equally it’s a no-brainer that the institution of marriage should not exist.

This received prolonged, spirited applause.

“Fighting for gay marriage generally involves lying about what we’re going to do with marriage when we get there, she continued."

Question for debate: Does this statement not support the arguments of those opposed to gay marriage?
"We are fooling ourselves if we imagine that we can ever make the authentic Gospel popular......it is too simple in an age of rationalism; too narrow in an age of pluralism; too humiliating in an age of self-confidence; too demanding in an age of permissiveness; and too unpatriotic in an age of blind nationalism." I would say it supports the arguments of those people that are totally opposed to marriage. Although in reality this is just one person giving their opinion and as such it's not much of a support for anything at all. It needs to be asked though, in what way does a homosexual couple getting married diminish a heterosexual marriage?

It's not surprising to people who have been involved with the homosexual community and privy to the same-sex marriage controversy for a while. The problem is that people who argue against same-sex marriage aren't typically reading the books and periodicals that come out of "the left" regarding marriage, sexuality, and family. Too many people simply assume they understand other people's perspectives. But not everyone in the homosexual community who wants access to marriage their way wants to corrupt the institution and change the traditional family structure. Even within the homosexual community there are two sides to the debate.

From the OP:
Lesbian says gay marriage is a lie to destroy marriage
It matters little to me that one, or a hundred million and one folks, gay or otherwise, would seek to "destroy marriage". That the government is involved in the matter leads me to conclude that folks should be treated equally under the law.
...
Does this statement not support the arguments of those opposed to gay marriage?
Only the arguments of those who see grand, nefarious conspiracy lurking around every corner.

In that vein, can we not "argue" that those who oppose offering gay folks the very rights they hold so dear have done them some "conspiring" in keeping those rights from gay folks, by bullet, blade, bomb or vote? Should we not conclude there's a grand, nefarious conspiracy by anti-homosexual forces to keep homosexuals from becoming fully fledged citizens? Why not?

When we try to declare our opponents' position, as the OP seems to do, we often see only the extreme ends of a rather broad debate.

Per the OP, are we to conclude that each and every homosexual seeks to have their marriages recognized as equal to heterosexual marriage only do so because each and every homosexual seeks the destruction, the ruin, the collapse, the downfall, the devastation, the complete removal of marriage from society or government?

Unless there is something significant in the context that was left out, Masha Gessen is mistaken in her view. As is Doug Mainwaring who is quoted in the piece saying “Same sex marriage will not redefine marriage — it will un-define it, and unravel it, and in so doing will un-define children. That is total rubbish and has not been the experience in jurisdictions where same sex marriage has been allowed for some time. Men and women still get married in Canada, even in those churches which support and practice same sex marriage. My particular hetero marriage has not been undefined or unraveled. My children, while not legally still children have not become undefined. Young hetero couples are still getting married and having children. I really have no clue what they are talking about.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
First Epistle to the Church of the Thessalonians
The truth will make you free.

If you truly believe this you should be advocating for homosexual marriage not against. The value of a genuine Rolex watch is not diminished one cent due to the multitude of counterfeits that exist. There are millions of copies of the Mona Lisa in the world, do you really think they in any way affect the value of the original?

Well it's true.

There's no point to marriage. Unless it's an open-relationship, the PHD-holding priestly class of the Left would argue.

Let's be honest: It is purely a tool to help homosexuals be viewed as equals in societies eyes. If Christians weren't so homophobic towards them for the last century(Which is only what truly counts, as events in the last 100 years still live on in the national memory), then we they wouldn't need to fight for marriage, to feel accepted. But they don't, and they won't, so down with marriage, and biblically-based gender constructs.

Even if all homosexuals decided tomorrow that they, like most Liberals, could care less for marriage, and dropped the whole issue... the majority of those who are pushing for Gay-Marriage, which are straight heterosexual Liberals, would have none of it. This is more then just about marriage. This is about undoing the Judeo-Christian framework that has corrupted society since the conception of this nation.
