Ok, so this is not so much a question for debate. Rather, it's just a fun story. If it violates a policy to just share a story, I'll take it down, no prob.
So, I called the folks at familyradio.com, who are the ones who started this whole "May21st is the end of the world, give us all your money" silliness, and asked them if they were SURE May 21st would be the beginning of the Rapture. They said yes, absolutely.
So I told them I wanted to donate $10,000 to their cause. They started being very cooperative and polite at that point.
Then I said I only had one condition, if May 21st turned not to be the end of the world, they'd have to give me my $10,000 back on May 22nd, plus 10% interest.
Brace yourselves guys, because this is going to come as a shock... They didn't go for it!
Moral of the story. They don't actually believe in what they're preaching. If they did, they'd have had NO PROBLEM with a win-win proposition whereby they'd have my $10,000 with which to spread the "news", and never have to give it back.
So, here's a message to all the fundamentalist Christians on this site. Believe whatever you want, and let's debate to our hearts' delight. But please don't give money to scam artists.
Actually, I do have 2 question for debate:
1) Over the last 2000 years, how many times do you think that people in positions of authority within Christianity took advantage of the pulpit to preach something they didn't actually believe in, for the exclusive purpose of getting rich and powerful at the expense of the gullible congregations?
2) If you're a church going Christian, how much money would you estimate you gave to your church over the last 10 years? Would you estimate that the total amount of money you donated is smaller or larger than the money you will spend on your children's college education? Also, as a bonus question, what kind of car does your preacher/pastor/priest drive? Is it a nicer car than yours?
Is May 21st Judgement Day?

There is some kind of activity on May 15 with the Palestinians that may be going on....the START of the end of the end of days is an option on the table...
I was thinking of trying again and quoting where Jesus says "Give to those who ask" and I'll say "Let me have $10,000 and I'll repay May 31".
If anyone wants to go in on a business idea to bilk these people, let me know.
Six of one and half a dozen of the other!

The topic is fine, but this seems a more appropriate forum, as the questions relate to corruption in the church, rather than the truth/falsehood of Christianity.

We must continually ask ourselves whether victory has become more central to our goals than truth.
