Which is the better way, to vote for a sure loser based on your agreement with the candidate's or party's position, or to vote for the least bad among those who have a realistic chance to win?

Would your answer change if you lived where there was some form proportional representation as opposed to the first-past-the-post common in Canada, India, the United Kingdom and United States of America?

Do your religious views, (or lack) play a part in your voting decisions? Should they?
