The Best Style of Government

Post by Kuan »

What government runs a country the best and keeps freedom in the hands of the people? Most of us know what a democratic government is like but have you ever wondered what a socialist government or another was like? Dont get me wrong I love America but we have so many problems here. What government do you think is best and why? Or democracy the best we can get?

The United States of America are a Federal Constitutional Presidential Representative Democratic Republic.

We do not have any god given revelation that provides us with the answer to this question. We have to work it out for ourselves. I believe that governments that adhere to the values of the Enlightenment and liberal democracy work the best. People can with such systems can work out the best balance between freedom and obligation, liberty and security.

Agreed. But liberal-democratic governments based on Enlightenment principles and values are very demanding and high-entropy systems, which have a disturbing tendency to collapse (often spectacularly) if they are not well-supported by a body politic with a strong sense of civic engagement. It helps if - as in Western and Northern Europe - you have long-standing civic traditions and an egalitarian social ethic which views each individual citizen as a stakeholder in the social order.

This is one of the reasons why I am sceptical of a.) naming any one system the 'best' and b.) exporting liberal-democratic political systems abroad, either by force or by external suasion. If you don't respect the culture, and if you do not already have the traditions in place to support such a system, that system is much more likely to collapse or to dissipate into impotence. For example, I think that if China develops a democracy (as is likely in the long term if not in the short), if it is to be successful it will have to be on their own terms, and based on their own language of civic engagement, likely drawing upon a mix of Confucian and Marxist morality.
If I am capable of grasping God objectively, I do not believe, but precisely because I cannot do this I must believe.

Here my opinion of a good form of government:

-A government that is seperated into different branches that keep each other in check
-A government that respects the sovergnity and rights of individual States.
-A government that is NOT a welfare state, and does not only tax the rich and engage in class warfare.
-A government that practices and promotes Capitalism
-A government that focuses primarily on defense and national security and DOES develop a strong military industrial complex.
-And finally a government that protects its people, not one thats sues its own citizens in order to get the Hispanic vote, as this government is doind.

Try a Banana Republic such as Guatemala or Honduras. I think you would like it...if you were one of the victorious class, that is.

Not at all. I am against monopolistic, predatory, unregulated, "too big to fail" "winner take all" casino capitalism. The advanced EU system is capitalistic balanced by social responsibility and strong Unions. Works better for the majority. I am certainly against war-profiteering capitalism. Capitalism is not democracy and has no place in our governance. It has completely corrupted Congress.
