The Lord shows signs, wonders and miracles to us, in us and around us. Do we see and acknowledge them or...dismiss them as coincidence, odd happenings, or the famous line...."there's a perfectly logical explanation for this?" Some are HUGE miracles and others are wonderful reminders that....He is with us.
Numbers 14:11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke Me? and how long will it be ere they believe Me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
It's so funny to see that verse and it's content for the sign I'm given ALL THE TIME is 1 & 4...as in that verse, 14:11. It literally was what brought me out of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 26:8 And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:
And....so He did! The signs and wonders are given us but do we see and hear? Do we acknowledge them for what they are? As He demonstrated signs and miracles to "all Israel," understand...we too are Israel and He is showing signs today to bring us out of Egypt, out of the world.
Deuteronomy 29:2-4 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all His servants, and unto all His land; The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles: Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
As the Lord told Saul...He tells us....
1 Samuel 10:6-8 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee. And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
An excerpt from ~ The Complete Works of C.S. Lewis, God in the Dock, Chapter 2 - Miracles
I have know only one person in my life who claimed to have seen a ghost. It was a woman; and the interesting thing is that she disbelieved in the immortality of the soul before seeing the ghost and still disbelieves after having seen it. She thinks it was a hallucination. In other words, SEEING IS NOT BELIEVING. Whatever experiences we may have, we shall not regard them as miraculous if we already hold a philosophy which excludes the supernatural.
A great deal of scepticism now current about the miracles of our Lord does not, however, come from disbelief of all reality beyond nature. In the first place, modern people have an almost aesthetic dislike of miracles. Admitting that God can, they doubt if He would. To violate the laws He Himself has imposed on His creation seems to them arbitrary, clumsy, a theatrical device only fit to impress savages - as if the resurrection of the dead were the same sort of thing as two and two making five.
Do the readers here receive signs and if so...do you recognize them as such. Or is "seeing not believing?"

Agreed, but I'm not debating the authority of the Bible., I'm challenging your basis for insisting the Gospels are eyewitness accounts, and also pointing out that there are definitely elements within them that are not historical fact. Accepting the authority of the Bible does not require one to be a literalist.rsvp wrote:fredonly wrote:rsvp wrote:Seems rather convenient. Eye witness accounts. What eyewitness accounts exist, and how do you know: 1) they really are eyewitness accounts; 2) they accurately report historical fact?
If you want to debate the Authority of the Bible you need to post in the appologetics forum.

Really??rsvp wrote:Seems rather convenient. What evidence is there that the biblical accounts of miracles are true?
Eye witness accounts.
Where are the eye witness accounts?? Show me them. Show me the direct eye witness accounts.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

And you know this (the bolded bit) because...?rsvp wrote:Were people just plain stupid way back when or something? They were fooled into thinking Jesus was dead? I disagree with you Goat. It is no harder today than it was then. People were just as skeptical then as they are now.It is harder to make unsupported claims, and to fool people now.
perhap's Hollywood is (in part) to blame, but there seems to be this assumption that peoples of 2000 years ago were 'just like us'. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In psychological development alone, in he 'level' of consciousness mankind can now achieve, we are far differnt from 'back then'. Even in the middle ages it was not uncommon, for example, for public executions, to be social occasions. Torture and execution were valid ways to 'test faith'. Look at the superstitions surrounding illness to see how 'less skeptical' the man in the street was.
They were not 'fooled' into believing Jesus was dead etc. They merely believed urban legend as representing fact.

If a corn plant grew from seed to ear in 10 minutes why is that any more miraculous than it taking all summer?

You have eyes to see the miraculous, the supernatural.

In the OP I wrote....

Behold I have brought an ear of corn to fruit in ten days. Would that the ear of corn be grown in Madagascar, some hungry child would have certainly devoured it and the miracle would have been lost, would that an entire field of corn, so easily at my disposal, be grown in the desert, away from thine eyes, the miracle would have been lost, should that ear of corn be ten feet tall and tended to by farmer ted who has slaved in the hot sun to bring forth the largest ear of corn to the country fair, the glory would be his and the my miracle would be lost. NO! This single ear of corn was grown in the presence of thy fat belly wherest you could look upon it for weeks praising me and me alone and then, off to the internet with you to spread the word.scottlittlefield17 wrote:If a corn plant grew from seed to ear in 10 minutes why is that any more miraculous than it taking all summer?
