Liberation theology is a Christian theology in which the teachings of Jesus Christ are understood in terms of a liberation from unjust political, economic, or social conditions.

Question for debate: Is Liberation theology a valid expression of Christian teaching?
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

The truth will make you free.

This was actually a live topic during my seminary days. Consensus then, at a fairly liberal Protestant seminary with its share of evangelicals, was that "liberation theology" was authentically Christian insofar as its concern for justice and liberty was concerned, but when it began supporting economic and/or partisan political positions, it was - shall we say, less authentic.

Marxism may or may not be compatible with Christianity in various of its aspects, but it is not the same thing. The same could be said for capitalism, of course, and those Christians who insist that that is "God's way" are just as wrong.
