What is Heaven?

Post by JoshC »

In Christian (and other religions, if you like) beliefs, what is Heaven?

Where is it? What is it? Wouldn't it get a bit boring? Isn't it just a mess up from humans' evolutionary useful fear of death and cognitive abilities?

Just wondering what peoples ideas on this.

When Jesus returns to earth, the 1500 square mile city of Heaven (new Jerusalem) will descend but not touch earth. There is more but that's interesting.

Even after almost 2000 years, the Christians are still so sure this Jesus fellow is going to come back in some magnificent fashion.

At what stage will Christians go: Actually, it doesn't look like he's coming and just get on with their lives and forget the whole thing? Another 1000 years? 1,000,000 years (if humans survive that long)?

We will stop wondering when is he comes back when he arrives. BTW, humans will survive that long its prophesy.

And you don't see that as a dangerous supposition? If people assume that the human race will survive no matter what, they will take no precautions in order to make sure we do. Disease, famine, climate-change, wars and many other factors that are a threat to humanity will be ignored because apparently some old book says nothing will happen.

i think it's very dangerous thinking. and pretty arrogant to think that we humans will live for a trillion years, or until the good lord "chooses" to "return". its almost as arrogant as the belief that this vast universe containing billions of galaxy's just like ours was created just for us to gawk at. i think humans will kill each other off or the sun will collapse before we see jesus collect his believers.
