Presumably the municipal zoning restrictions were enacted for a reason. If that reason is no longer valid, then the city council should look at changing them, otherwise don't plan to build a tall building in an area zoned for short ones.
The fact that it is the Mormons wanting to build a temple rather than the Catholics wanting to build a cathedral or a secular organization wanting to build an art gallery, should be moot.

Post #4It should simply be left as a practical matter to be determined as it winds its way through the legal process. If the law ultimately comes down against the construction of the temple then the church should find another site. If the law sides with the church then those in opposition should hang up their hats.

This should have nothing todo with religion and everything to do with the law. As Mculloch said, this is nothing but a zoning law dispute.

Protests against temple site plans are typical...our Church leaders always work peacably with local residents and authorities. When issues cannot be resolved, they scale back or find another location.

What is the big deal with us (mormons) putting up a temple, I believe all of our temples are made with great architecture and are not eyesores except for one or two in Utah, Provo for example.

The problem in this case is that the mormons want to build their church where it would violate local building codes.
