I have no questions regarding this article, but I would like to hear your comments.
Heroes are distinguished by their valor and resolve. They may be soldiers, sports figures, entertainers, etc. In mythology, a hero was an illustrious person, once mortal, who was, by favor and the rule of the people, made to appear immortal. After death, they are placed among the gods. The Assyrians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Caesars of Rome all indulged in these practices.
Americans have many heroes; among them are athletes, musicians, and entertainers who are adored and honored, even after death. It's okay to give credit to and acknowledge a great athlete, a doctor, a scientist, an academic, or even a great racehorse. These people, and things wow us! they amazed us! they deserve respect! but they are not to be made idols or gods.
Idols are images carved, molded, or drawn, to resemble that of a man, a creature, or a thing. When finished, they are placed on altars, and candles lit before them. Then the knees begin to bow, and the lips begin to pray to the lifeless figure that dances in the shadows made from the burning flames. God said, "Thou shalt not." Every negative has a positive, or it can't be a negative. When God tells us not to worship idols, He's commanding us to give Him all our love, affection, time, and worship.
Paul said, “I am a servant of Jesus Christ.” He calls himself an apostle of Jesus Christ, an apostle by Jesus Christ, and God the Father. Like Paul and so many others, we are to help ourselves to the real deal; to Jesus Christ; and His Holy Spirit; and receive the benefits that come from the love of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Then watch your life change. Not by man, or beast, neither some figure, or memory; but by the living God, the Creator, and Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.
What do secular or even religious impostors give anyone? They are deceitful, frauds, and pretenders. They cannot give life, love, or hope. What they do is take; not give. Today, the idols of sport and entertainment are stealing our precious time. The sports stadiums in America are full every Saturday and Sunday, but not our churches. Why? It's no secret that Americans would rather spend time with their heroes and idols than with God.
Psalms 115: 4-8, Your "Idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so, is every one that trusts in them.”
Who or what can anyone compare the Father and his beloved Son to? By what standard can they be measured? What man has ever taken a breath that can be put to the same test as our Savior? We worship a jealous God; His jealousy is a holy and righteous jealously.
