Why do we celebrate the birth of Jesus?
Because we are happy he was born.
We are happy about the incarnation - that God became a man and walked with us.

Re: Why do we celebrate the birth of Jesus?
Post #2We are happy that he was born also. But (1) he never told us to celebrate his birth, and we don't even know the date! The only thing he told us to celebrate was his death (Luke 22:17-19). (2) The traditions that are celebrated are bound in ancient pagan practices (the yule log for one) and do not honor Jesus. Why mix darkness with light? (2 Corinth. 6:14-18) Jesus is the "truth" and does not appreciate being associated with pagan fantasies. (John 14:6)
We love Jesus. He is our King. We celebrate his presence every day and do not single out one day to remember him (except Nisan 14).

Post #3Sure, God could have chosen to be born a woman. God is Spirit and has no gender. Men and women are equally made in God's image. However, to be fully human God had to have be either male or female. He was male, but he didn't have to be.

So? We want to celebrate the event, and joy is a fruit of the Spirit.
Sure, we could be wrong about the date. Does that matter?
We do celebrate his death. And his resurrection. And his birth. We have a lot to celebrate!onewithhim wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am The only thing he told us to celebrate was his death (Luke 22:17-19).
Neither I, nor anyone I know, celebrates traditions bound in ancient pagan practices.onewithhim wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am (2) The traditions that are celebrated are bound in ancient pagan practices
Ok, but who do you know that keeps a Yule log? That is not a tradition I have ever seen anyone practice.
I do not understand the mindset that calls joy darkness.
He is our King. We celebrate his presence every day and set aside days to focus even more on the birth of our King!onewithhim wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:57 am We love Jesus. He is our King. We celebrate his presence every day and do not single out one day to remember him (except Nisan 14).

You asked why we celebrate the birth of Jesus. I told you why I celebrate. You can celebrate whatever you want.

No idea. I have noticed that God does not answer many "why" questions. It is almost as if he wants us to trust him (have faith) instead of demanding answers.
Yes, the Lord lives.
Ok.

Post #8I remember him saying that what he wants from us is that we act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God. So probably something like that.
