Lake of fire

Post by achilles12604 »

Question for everyone. The lake of fire referred to by the traditional Christian/ Catholic/ Fundi churches.

Is it literally a lake of fire? It is figurative? Other?
It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

Excellent. So are we agreed, sometimes the bible speaks of literal fire and sometimes it speaks of symbolic (metaphoric) fire . (see post # )

Yes, but fire that punished the evil and evil doers is literal fire. Just like Nadab and Abihu.

No because some evil doers like the thief that died with Jesus were not burnt. Pharoah and his army drowned. The evildoers in Noah's day did not burn. So no, some evil does like Nadab and Abihu were burnt but some evildoers did not burn. In the future it will be the same, perhaps some evildoers will literally be burnt to death and perhaps some will die by other means.

All evildoers will die by literal fire in the future judgement of God, and not any other means,

I have never see such a statement in the bible. Is that another one of your human conclusions?

There are only two kind of persons mentioned here: saints and sinners.

First resurrection: are the saints where death has no power and with God 1,000 years in heaven.
Second resurrection: the sinners resurrected after 1,000 years, deceived by Satan number of whom is as the sand of the sea to battle the saints in the holy city coming down from heaven but fire from God will devour them.
Rev 20:5-9

5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
KJV

Rev 20:9

Yes it is, just like Jehovah, in this verse, is a "consuming fire" that will destroy Israel's enemies: "Know therefore today that it is the LORD your God who is crossing over before you as a consuming fire." (Deuteronomy 9:3, NASB) Is God really fire? Or is that said to compare His power and zeal to fire, which is clearly symbolic?
