SABBATH...

Post by Capbook »

Is the Lord's Sabbath in the OT still for God's people in the NT?

Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment

The end of the period of God’s special favor to the Jews came 3 1/2 years later (half a biblical week) in 36 C.E. (Dan 9:27a)
May I know how you define Christian?
Also your definition of church?
  • A Christian is a dedicated follower of Christ.
  • The Christian church is the body of spirit anointed Christian and all those associated with them

So the "they"in Luke 23:56 were dedicated follower of Christ, and can be called Christians that observed the Sabbath in the NT.
And yes, "church" are the group of people that believe and follows Christ.
When was the Christian church first established? I believe it starts when Christ had dedicated followers.

If we loved our neighbor we would be doing what the Ten Commandments told us to do.
Then that would include the Sabbath commandment which is to observe it on the 7th day of the week.
No, if one really undertands the principle of the Sabbath one will make spiritual things a priority everyday and work when appropriate without thé need to prohibit ork on any specific day.

I don't care what you believe; the bible indicates that your belief is wrong.

I quote Luke 23:56, are they not followers of Christ?
If not, what would you call them?

Irrelevant: the holy spirit had not yet been poured out at Pentecost and thus the church had not been established to replace the Jewish temple system.

You already defined what Christians are.
Then evade to answer Luke 23:56. Are they followers of Christ or not?
Is Luke 23:56 irrelevant?

(1) I said a dedicated Christian and the disciples were only dedicated (set apart as God special people) at Penecost 33CE. (2) Further, the disciples of Christ existed as individuals but had not alternative system of worship until Pentecost 33 CE. (See John 4:21-24)

The 2 points above fully address your objection based on Luke 23:56.

Ok then, where in the Bible that mentions "dedicated Christians" in Pentecost.

ACTS 2: 38, 39

Peter said to them: “Repent, and let each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the free gift of the holy spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and your children, and to all those who are far away, to all those whom Jehovah our God may call to himself.”

I didn't see the "dedicated Christians" you've mentioned, that you differ to followers of Christ in Luke 23:56.
Mark 16:16 Faith is first mentioned which they in Luke 23:56 also believes and follow Jesus.
