Jesus is God -Joshua 5 - who was this man?

Hi all,

Here is a good talk on Joshua 5:

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?s ... ersion=NIV
13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”

14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord[e] have for his servant?”

15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
Would Joshua bow down to not God? Don't angels say hey stop worshipping me if they are not God? Why was Joshua commanded to take off his sandals (think back to Moses)?

I cannot say so catagorically (as the passage doesnt identify him as such) but I believe it is a reasonable assumption that the Prince Joshua met was Jesus in his pre-human existence, yes.

Good, we agree with it. But Jesus as God, I believe its not in the NWT.

What is not in the NWT?

That Jesus is God. As it even has another translation of John 1:1.

Yes it is. What is not in the NWT is that Jesus is ALMIGHTY God.

Yes Joshua would bow down to not-God. It is merely a form of respect when involving men or angels in high places.

Jesus is God in Joshua 5:14
Captain (Ex 15:8) of the host of the Lord - either the Israelite people (Ex 7:4; 12:41; Isa 55:4), or the angels (Ps 148:2), or both included; and the Captain of it was the Angel of the Covenant, whose visible manifestations were varied according to the occasion, and who on this occasion appeared to conduct God's people into the land of promise. Some consider this to be the created angel (Ex 33:2-3) who was substituted for the Angel of the Presence (Ex 33:20-23) in superintending the Sinaitic economy, after the grievous offence caused by the people in the affair of the golden calf. But the address and the adoration of Joshua, the holiness communicated to the spot by the presence of this Personage, and the application to him of the name Yahweh (Josh 6:2), identify Him with the Angel the Lord, the Second Person of the Trinity. His attitude of equipment betokened his approval of, and interest in, the war of invasion.

To all respondents,

I think the scriptures speak well for themselves.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

John 10:30 - I and my Father are one.

Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

John 20:28 - And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

John 8:58 - Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

1 Timothy 1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;

2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

That is true, Jesus says there is only one true God who is greater than him. Why do you think many Christians don't really believe what he says?

This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
John 17:3
… the Father is greater than I.
John 14:28
