How are we to be like God?

If you can only use one word to describe a characteristic of God that we should follow as an example what word would you use?

And why do you choose that word?

You had said that humans don't live forever, and that's when I quoted John 3:16. It's very clear that humans can attain to everlasting life.
But not as humans!

Flesh and blood humans cannot inherit the Kingdom of God.

Humans must be born again as spiritual bodied beings to gain everlasting spiritual bodied life in the Kingdom of God.
Of course as humans! Most humans will be living on earth in physical bodies forever. The few that go to heaven are the ones that rule with Christ over the earth. They are the only ones who need to be born again, because they will be spirit persons eventually and will change, to be able to live in heaven, the spirit realm. Humans on earth don't need to change to be able to live in the spirit realm. Thus, they don't need to be born again.

Blasphemy is defined in the Bible as assuming to oneself the rights or qualities of God:

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. (John 10:31-33)

When you claim that individual mortal humans will live forever as humans on the earth, aren't you committing blasphemy by assuming to man the godly characteristic of immortal life?

I said that Jesus and his 144,000 co-rulers will be the only ones to be immortal. Mankind can live forever as long as they are obedient to God. If anyone turns against God, he will be eliminated. He will no longer be allowed to cause dissention among the people on Earth. There is a difference between being immortal and being mortal. Immortality means that you cannot sin any more. Mortality means that you can sin, but you will be ok if you always obey God's commands. There is nothing of blasphemy in that.

The correct definition of immortal: Incapable of dying.

The wages of human sin is death. To say that immortality means that one cannot sin anymore, implies that they have sinned in the past. If they have sinned in the past they must die to pay the wages for those sins.

So no one human would ever gain immortality.

So your definition is meaningless as applied to mankind.

I should have said "they cannot die anymore." Death happens when someone has sinned and they reach the end of their life. If a person cannot die anymore (and yes, we ALL have sinned) that means that sin has been erased from their life because sin leads to death. Since Jesus died to get rid of sin and death, mortal humans can live forever. His sacrifice must be in the equation. He paid the price for us sinners who had death to look forward to without his intervening.

It is appointed to all men once to die and Jesus was a man:

And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)

The wages of our sins is the second everlasting death, not our first:

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

When did Jesus die His second death and pay the wages for our sins?

He didn't need to die a second death. He was a perfect man, unlike all the rest of humanity, sent by God to "break up the works of the Devil" and die for the world of mankind. (I John 3:8; John 3:16) Jesus never sinned, so he wasn't like all other men and didn't need to die, as you say, a second death. Actually, the "second death" is only for those who are going to be annihilated. It is the symbolic casting into the lake of fire for eternal destruction, so it doesn't apply to all men. (Revelation 20:14)

"And death and hell [footnote: the grave] were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." (Revelation 20:14,15 KJV) Second death is for only the wicked.

How did Jesus' death on the cross pay the wages for mankind's sins?

Satan said that humans could be like God. That means that they would have independence from God and follow their own wills rather than God's.
I stand by what I said.
So you believe Satan's word?
God give us freewill, to believe or not to believe Him.
God will not enforce His love to us. We will be able to love Him because of His indescribable kindness, goodness, mercy, etc, and also because He first love us.

Do I "believe Satan's word." you ask. It's not a case of who believes what. Satan's word came true, because the first humans did get independence from God and made themselves their own masters. They decided to follow their own wills instead of God's. Satan tricked Eve into believing that something good would come from eating from the one tree. He lied, but Adam and Eve did become "like God" in that they dictated for themselves what they would do. Eve thought it meant something else, that they would be equal to God. Satan tricked her, and he has said things that came true but in another aspect. He twists things around. Do YOU believe that Satan lied? Then why castigate me for believing so?

Do to be independence from God is it "to be like God?"
Is to follow our own will, is it "to be like God?"
Cause for me "to be like God" is;
1Ti 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
