Who is a Christian?? !!

Before Covid I used to cycle around my local area and would visit chapels and churches which held tea'n'chat meetings. On one occasion I passed a Christian hall and saw a poster which read something like 'soup and chat', and I walked inside just as the event was commencing. A long table was set and many mid-aged and elderly folks sat around; I was guided to a place.

A very stern lady across the table fixed me in her gaze and an interrogation began:-
Who are you?
Hello I'm oldbadger.
Why have you come here?
I wanted to meet you, and the soup is interesting.
How did you know about this meeting?
I saw a big poster outside.
Do you walk in to any place because of posters?
Yes..... I often do.
Where else have you just walked in to?
Oh, lots of places. The Methodist church holds tea/biscuit meets on Saturday mornings.
She grunted what sounded like disapproval. I mentioned a few other meetings and then the room erupted.
I said....
Oh, and the Christian Spiritualists in T--------- offering healing and tea on Mondays at 1.30pm.

This stern lady exploded.
They are not Christians! They worship the Devil! All these evil people who pretend to be Christians...... Jesus warned us about you all! And that disgusting Halloween...... ............ well this carried on for minutes until she could be calmed down.

This has happened many times....... I once mentioned that we have JW Christian friends and we are pleased to let them park on our driveway when visiting homes in the area, and several Christians immediately pointed out that JWs are different, or not proper Christians......

There are many many differing churches and creeds, and so I wonder....... who is a proper Christian?

Yup. And those Jews that live on every word for Jehovah God's mouth became to be known as Christians.

Jesus Christ made that possible. Jesus fulfilled the Law and a new law was put in after it. The Law of the Christ. Which doesn't replace the Mosaic Law code but picks up where it leaves off.

Please can I ask.... 'Are you a Jehovah's Witness?'
I ask because of the way that you write, and if you are then that suggests that you probably agree with the member JehovahWitness and their list of 'must do's'.

I acknowledge anybody's faith, belief or religion....... it's theirs, their way. So please don't think me deceitful if/when you see my posts which acknowledge other folk's ways; if there is a 'way of the tatty hound dog' that somebody follows then I will ask questions and acknowledge them.... it's a kind of freedom for me.

But when there is a group, the term becomes Christians. Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians. We make know the name of God like Jesus did. "And I have made your name known to them and will make it known, in order that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in union with them.”​—John 17:25, 26.

Note how unity and making God's name known go hand in hand.

Do you read anything else other than scripture that is said to be inspired by God? So as far as I know everything that has ever been said to mankind is contained in the Bible. Do you have evidence that its not and that Jehovah God has not told us something?

There are teachings and practices that are not found in Christ's teachings in the Bible. So I don't know if EVERYONE isn't a Christian but I do know there are many religions and individuals that deliberately do not practice the teachings of Christ and God's inspired Word. So I don't know how I can call them Christians, thus I don't.

This is not a foreign idea to people. If a person call themselves honest yet they lie to the government on their taxes, can we give that person the label of being honest? Same goes for being a Christian, if Christian mean follower of Christ but they don't follow his teachings on purpose, how are they Christian?

Ah!........ Well you got that wrong for starters. At least, your source did. I clicked on your link and there in big letters I saw:-

I won't bother to look up what OPQFD means..... so to the rest of it....... Now that is incorrect, imo. If you have a problem with this then I think it would need a thread all on its own, but I can at least answer you directly here.

The authors of G-John didn't experience anything about or with Jesus. Matthew needed to copy G-Mark so he wasn't around either, and Luke (more or less) admits that he wasn't actually present. But the author of Mark, although writing down the memoirs of (probably) Cephas DID witness some of the events describe in G-Mark and DID mention them.

It doesn't prove that Jesus is God, or that he made the universe, or all that (I'm a Deist) but it does show that the author of G-Mark wrote down some of his own experiences. You just have to research those gospels, read 'em..... think about them.
