One of the hallmarks of Protestantism is their adherence to the principle of "Sola Scriptura" or the Bible alone.
But the Bible does not spell out the doctrine of the Trinity. At best, it is only implied in the New Testament. So why do Protestants accept the Trinity when that doctrine is not in the Bible? Isn't the Trinity a Catholic doctrine?
Sola Scriptura? Then why do Protestants accept the Trinity?

Sola Scriptura? Then why do Protestants accept the Trinity?
Post #1 My theological positions:
-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.
I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

If you are going to reject the many places where the Bible declares Jehovah (YHWH) to be God, why would we expect you to believe the Bible when it shows Him doing 'godly things'?

I connect it together. Let the Bible speak for itself.
For by Him [Jesus] all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16).
You are quoting Jesus in Genesis. Next example?
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Why yes. In genesis the Messiah is hinted at.brianbbs67 wrote: Its not in there EJ. I wish it was, it may be true, but its only hinted at. That should raise a flag. Should we follow things that are or are hinted?
So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.
Good thing that verse 15 was followed up on even if only hinted at.
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.

Post #14YHWH is doing a godly thing? What kind of "thing" did you have in mind? A "thing" like dividing the Red Sea (Ex 10:13)? ...shaking a mountain (Ex 19:11) ? A thing like sending fire from heaven (1 Kings 17:22) ?.... creating the first human (Gen 2:19) ? creating THE UNIVERSE and everything in it (Gen 2:4)?....Or something more impressively godlike?Wootah wrote: [Replying to Elijah John]

Post #15(Correct me if I'm wrong Wootah) JW, I don't think Wootah is saying that YHVH is not God. He acknowledges that he is because he indeed does Godly things. I think W is saying that so does Jesus. Jesus does Godly things so that makes Jesus God.JehovahsWitness wrote:YHWH is doing a godly thing? What kind of "thing" did you have in mind? But that side steps the issue that the Bible explicitly says that YHVH is God. Verbatim, "YHVH, he is God". But the Bible does not say in a similar, verbatim manner that Jesus is God.
Jesus does Godly things because he is empowered by God, and given Godly authority.

Okay fair enough. I misunderstood and took it to be a request for verses as to YHWH actually doing anything that merited the title.
My bad,

Yes, we are proving the Trinity again.
Why do you assume Jesus is empowered by God and YHWH is not empowered by God? Instead of making that assumption which involves an infinite regress just assume if X can do something that only God can do then X is God.
How about we apply the adage: If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck it's a duck.
You are giving undue weight to the Old Testament. I call the whole thing the Bible and read it equally.
YHWH creates = YHWH is God.
Jesus creates = Jesus is God.
Further, the Holy Spirit hovered over the waters and can create.
Spirit creates = Spirit is God.
