In each of the cited Judaism-influenced and pro-Catholic passages, Jesus neither stated nor implied that he was, in fact, the son of "God" (Yahweh, aka: Jehovah). This belief was assumed or stated by a lifelong follower(s) of Judaism other than Jesus.

Don't you love when they change translatons, and add phrases.Paul2 wrote:silvercloud,

In the KJV, the phrase 'Son of God' does not exist. OMG.. Someone added a phrase and changed religious texts.

So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58 ESV.
If you read Exodus 3 you will find that when God first appeared to Moses he called himself "I Am."

That must mean that Poppi the sailor man is God.theophilus40 wrote:Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58 ESV.

If you read Jon 8:58 in context, the previous paragraphs are talking about how great god is, how God is greater than anybody. This is a claim by Jesus that he is greater than Abraham.. not that he is God.

goat,
I doubt that the KJV is perfect and I doubt that the version I use is perfect. Both versions have Jesus claiming to be the son of God in Mark 14:62. "Son of God" and "son of the Blessed" are equivalent in meaning.
Paul
Or a phrase was accidentally omitted in the manuscript underlying the KJV.goat wrote: Someone added a phrase and changed religious texts.

I agree. If his opponents had understood him to be making a claim that he was God, this should have been the main charge against him at his trial and there would have been no shortage of witnesses against him on that charge.goat wrote:This is a claim by Jesus that he is greater than Abraham.. not that he is God.

No one can prove that Jesus wasn't referring to himself as the "son of God" in the same way Christians do to imply they were created by him.
I guess that's where the miracles come in.
I've always liked the idea of a teenage girl, in 2009, coming home to her fiancé and mum then telling them she was pregnant but ("I'm still a virgin mum!") and ("I didn't sleep with anyone else!"). Then later informing them an angel had appeared in front of her to tell her she was having a special baby and was to name it Geoff.
I don't think she'd get away with it quite as easy as Mary.
