Subforum assumption, Bible authority

Post by daedalus 2.0 »

The purpose of this subforum is to have a place to freely engage in debates on Christian theology with the basic assumption that the Bible can be used as a primary reference without the need to defend its authority. Responses to topics with "but first you have to prove that the Bible is true" is not allowed here.
I agree. This subforum allows the believer to skip the sticky, uncomfortable mess of showing the Bible is true and dive right into their doctrine. This forum needs to be this way because Xians need protection from this basic logical process.

Now, when I reference Andrea Yates or Fred Phelps as an example of the dangers of Xianity, the Xian will say: But you can't judge Xianity by the people who don't represent Xianity.

My question is this: If we are assuming the Bible is an authority - whose authority do we use? All we get are a long list of people who DON'T speak for Xianity, but is there anyone who does? Jesus? But he didn't write anything and the Bible's authority is up to interpretation.

Personally, I like Bob Price's or Bishop Shelby Sprong's interpretation.

Whose authority do you accept as the authority on what authority the Bible holds as authority?
Imagine the people who believe ... and not ashamed to ignore, totally, all the patient findings of thinking minds through all the centuries since the Bible.... It is these ignorant peoplewho would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us...I.Asimov

If you are like most, the teachings and wisdom you attribute to God, you have received from other humans, pastors, parents, apostles, prophets and the like.
No! My memory goes back to being in my pram. I have known God is real since childhood. It was a shock to find out that other people didn't. Why does everyone look for something dramatic like a burning bush or a road to damascus enlightenment?
Perhaps god should be required to audition for the part?

An atheist following a Bible? Oxymoron. You have no God leading you to the truth of which is right. As a result, you took the route Satan prescribed.

Yes, the HOLY Bible the Church has held since the first century Church began, plus the accepted Tanach scriptures Jesus mastered and taught out of. You speak of a corrupted "bible".

Among the atheists I am like the atheists.
That was not license for atheists to mingle among Christians as wolves in sheep's garb. That passage had to do with Paul, a Jew and Pharisee, continuing to mingle among Jews as a Jew with ability to point out the Tanach's foretelling of the Christ, identified as Jesus. It was not a message to and for use by atheists. You distort the clear message of the word of God. I am not surprised.

You are the one distorting truth here. You are not numbered among the children of God, so cannot speak for us, citing scriptures out of context and contrary to the other teachings of Paul.

All people are the children of God, no matter what their beliefs about him are. That includes Hindu's, Muslims, Wiccians, Christians , Jews and atheists. As for 'scripture out of context'.. well, that sounds like the kettle calling the pot black.
“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?

The Bible declares many are the children of Satan, so of course not all people are God's children. Even the Tanach separates Gentile unbelievers from the House of Israel, with no hope, except in a generation when Gentiles will be afforded the light that came to the children of Abraham.

There is only one begotten Son of God, the rest children of men until each person chooses this day whom he shall serve. Additional children of God come to Him as adoptees according to faith, as taught to Abraham. You need to study Judaism to get some basis for discussing this. God claimed His children on the basis of faith of Abraham, not a particular blood line through Abraham.

Your response is exactly what I'd expect from an agent of Satan. Sorry, the Bible I follow is the HOLY and FIRST Bible. Yours is an abomination created almost a quarter of millenia later.

I'd ask you for evidence of your claim, but I don't need it. I know you are promoting Satan because God has spoken to me, and you are speaking against God's Holy Word: Marcion's Bible.

Thank God you don't have influence here, and thank God someone isn't trying to claim THEIR Bible (Say, Thomas Jefferson's Bible) is authority.

The First Bible wins. Marcion's. All others are heretical and of Satan.

Sorry, goat, in this subforum the Bible has authority. You don't get to bring your lovey-dovey, hippie Bible in here and start making claims.

The Bible can only mean ONE thing: God's Bible. The Word. This can ONLY mean Marcion's Bible. He was inspired by God and rightly rejected all other texts in favor of the truth.

Word swordsman does not have any biblical support that only people who follow his belief are 'children of god'.

Some of those writing didn't happen until the second century and they were still arguing over it hundreds of years later.
Only 7 of Paul's so-called 13 letters are Paul's.

True, but what about my personal revelation that I am right? ;-) That must count for something! :-D

It is one thing to get a Sunday school version of the 19th century bible believer's interpretaion but as a debating forum I think the threats of hell and blaming everything on Satan borders on childish.
