Re: Religeon
Post #2The mathematician John Allen Paulos has cataloged twelve reasons given for believing in God. For the convenience of the perplexed and as a starting point for debate, I have posted them in a debate thread. Not Brainwashed wrote:Can anybody please explain how you do believe in " God "?
I believe in addition to these twelve unassailable reasons, there can be added
- argumentum ad antiquitatem - the ancients believed it so it must be true
- argumentum ad populum - lots of people believe it, so it must be true
- proof by assertion - if enough people insist that it is true often enough, then it becomes true
- argumentum in terrorem - believe it, or you're going to roast in hell for eternity
- argumentum ad verecundiam - various great thinkers believe it, so it must be true
- wishful thinking - I cannot imagine there not being a god and life would be meaningless, therefore it must be true
- special pleading - divine reasoning is different than human reasoning

And here is another prize-winning reason to believe in God. The argument from the calendar:
See, if you really want to believe in God, then there are so so many reasons you can use. Each one as good as the next. Hundreds of them. Go ahead, I'll bet you could make up a few yourself.Harlan Norris over at Christian Forums wrote:I've made this point. Consider, an obscure carpenters son, charged and convicted of sedition, then executed. Think about the odds, that time it'self is reconed from the day of this mans birth. What year is it? 2005. 2005 from when? 2005 from the birth of Jesus Christ. If there is no God and Jesus is not the son of God, how could this have happened?

There is really only one reason to believe in God. First of all I don't like this word "God" because it has germanic/pagan roots, and who knows what it really means. It can be used in all kinds of connotations, it can be pluralized, etc. Rather we should use the real name of "God" which is ALLAH, Holy and Exalted is He. Allah means the One who alone is worthy of worship.I have no idea what that means what you just put!!! why is it that when ever this question gets asked people quote other people or scripters?? So the reason to believe in Allah is because He is the One who created all things, the cosmos, the stars, planets, life, animals, you and me. Everything which exists has been created by Allah (with the exception of Allah Himself, who is without beginning and without end). The atheist cannot give a satisfactory answer as to how did the universe and everything in it come into existence. Some give ridiculous argument that it was some kind of random accident. However, only Islam can give a real answer, the only logical answer, that the creation must have a Creator, who is not subject to the same things which the creation is subject to.
So believe in Allah because He alone is the only Reality. Everything aside from Allah is false.

The only honest answer about how did the universe and everything in it come into existence is, "I don't really know." Saying that Allah made it makes as much sense as saying that , One day, Mbombo felt a terrible pain in his stomach, and vomited the sun, the moon, and the stars.Ilias Ahmad wrote:There is really only one reason to believe in God. This is called special pleading.Ilias Ahmad wrote:However, only Islam can give a real answer, the only logical answer, that the creation must have a Creator, who is not subject to the same things which the creation is subject to.
How is your statement any different from, "So believe in the Universe because it alone is the only Reality. Everything aside from the Universe is false." The only difference is that we know that the universe exists. Allah, on the other hand, is mere speculation.Ilias Ahmad wrote:So believe in Allah because He alone is the only Reality. Your comparison is flawed. The universe has a beginning, and doubtless it will have an end. Even your own scientists admit this. Allah, however, is not subject to beginnings or ends:How is your statement any different from, "So believe in the Universe because it alone is the only Reality. And call not, besides Allah, on another god. There is no god but He. Everything will perish except His Face. To Him belongs the Command, and to Him will ye (all) be brought back. (Holy Quran 28:88)

Unlike Allah, Mbombo never revealed himself to humanity. This is why we believe in Allah alone as the One and Only God. If Allah didn't reveal Himself through Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa salam), you would be justified in calling our belief in Him as mere speculation without any logical basis. One day, Mbombo felt a terrible pain in his stomach, and vomited the sun, the moon, and the stars.

You do have a error here. Science does not say where the singularity comes from. Until we get more information, we can't say what happened before 10 ^ -43 seconds into the expansion. Frankly, to say that scientists claim that is known as a 'straw man', because you are misrepresenting what scientists DO say.Ilias Ahmad wrote:Your comparison is flawed. “What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?
