Flat Earth

I am posting a question but as I am almost 100% sure this thread will erupt in mudslinging, I am starting it out where it will be moved later anyway.

Scrotum asserted that the bible contains the error that the earth is flat and held up by pillars.

Please show me where this is written.

Satellite = Communist propaganda.

7. Gravitational effects of the earth upon other bodies indicate a body a mass consistent with a sphere having a diameter of ~7900 miles and specific gravity of 5.5.
Dont ty to be technical with that science bull.

Then there are some technical “proofs”.
Like what, measuring "the force"? You live in a StarWars(tm) world man. I will join Biker and Twobitsmedia, God is real, and so is the Bible, and the Bible says the world is flat, and you cant prove its not, so....

Lunar eclipses are fairly regular. I have seen several partial ones, and one total one. Solar eclipses are much more rare.

And, it isn't 'science bull'. It is pretty straight forward, actually.

Okay, fine lets do it the old fashioned way then. Give me a stick, a ruler and a year and I can give you proof the earth is not flat and on top of that I'll also be able to give you a pretty accurate measure of its circumferance.

Two things:

You don't always need to keep all of the quoted material in your post when you use the quote feature. It makes for easier reading it you keep only the bits you are responding to.
You'll need a boat too.

Also, I haven't read the forum yet but the Bible has always ascerted a round Earth. Look it up! It's in there. It was the Catholic Church in the Dark Ages that perpetuated the idea that the Earth was the center of the Universe. The idea that the Universe rotated around God's Creation put more strength into the authority of the Church.

Eh, no, the Bible say its a flat circle, no doubt comming from the hindu belief but somewhat modified. IT says so RIGHT THERE in your bible, Circle, Flat. Easy to understand.

The Bible states that the earth is round, Isaiah 40:22 (written around 710 BC) “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers;”

That has been shown actually to be a reinterpretation. The passages quoted tend to equate the word for a two dimensional circle with a ball. This is trying to stretch the meanings of words much to much to ignore the fact that the early Hebrews cosmology was just plain wrong.

I don't see what the big deal is.... the Bible is not a science book

It seems to be some semantic confusion here (understanding/meaning of words), it says CIRCLE, not SPHERE. Perhaps you did not read the quote you wrote(?).

And after about 1600 posts, being a site supporter and known the regular members here pretty well for around 2 years, Yes, i expect people here to take me seriously and not care about my NAME. I guess you judge people after race, religion and profession, but others are more mature in their stance and acting.

But it is a big deal if you believe the bible is the infallible word of God. It then makes the entire bible questionable in its accuracy and divinity.

Yes, if you are foolish enough to think that the bible is the infallible word of God, then you have a lot of items you have to explain away.

The viewpoint I have is that the bible is not so much the "Infallible Word of God" so much as it is the story of a people's search for God. It includes all the leaders traits, both faults and triumphs, and shows that even the most powerful who have the biggest flaws can be close to God. If that is the case, every person can be close to God.
