IF, when you die, you find out Christianity is in fact correct and there is a Heaven and a Hell, which of these statements would be true for you?

Be glad I didn't have to spent eternity with a god who ordered his followers to rape and murder, I DO have morals ya know!

Wonder why I was going to Hell since, even though I was Atheist or Agnostic, I lived a very moral life.

Wonder why a god who calls himself 'Just' would send me to Hell just because I am a Muslim/Jew/Buddhist/Pagan/etc. I HAVE led a good life.

Kick myself on the way to Hell for NOT being a Christian, I should have listened.

If there IS a hell ...

Christians often ask me what I would do if Hell does exist and Christianity is correct. Then they say it is better to believe and be wronge than to not believe and end up in Hell. And they figure I would be upset if when I die I find out Christianity was correct. But...

On principle I would be glad to be in Hell rather than with a god who told his followers to kill every child, woman and man in city after city, and to rape the very young females and make them slaves for the men. I would also not want to be within a million light years of a god who would condem a soul forever just for calling him/her by the wrong name or believing something a little different or for interpreting the bible a little wrong. He just seems very violent and egotistical ... very unlike the way I picture a God to be like in so many ways. I was wondering how other non-christians felt about it.

At the same time I would wonder why a true god would damn people for not believing, even though they lived a very moral life,

and then I would wondr if the under-world could overthrow this God and make it so EVERY one could live the afterlife without being tortured!! :evil_laugh:

Arrrgggh!! When will amateur Christian apologists realize that Pascal's Wager is
  1. not new
  2. not insightful
  3. not a particularly valid reason to believe
  4. has been thoroughly debunked.

The point of Christian theology is that very moral just does not cut it. You have to be perfect to make the grade. Unless you can say that you have lived an absolutely blameless life, you cannot merit eternity with God. But God is good and provides to all forgiveness so that you appear blameless before God. But there is a catch. It is conditional upon you believing certain things.

If we're talking about the God as defined by the Christians, who is all powerful, then the answer is no. Unless, of course, we have iron chariots.

A clearer endorsement of science and technology in the Bible, I've never seen !

I don't know how many times I have said this, so it is old news, but I will say it again. With all the conflicting information and the lack of any attempt of a God to maintain a relationship with His creation and the things He allows to happen to those who are devout followers of Him and those who are to young to protect themselves, I would have to say that should I die tomorrow and find that there is a God and I am on my way to hell, I will gladly walk the path with a smile on my face, a tear in my eye, and a hatred filled heart. For what God would allow the suffering one has endured throughout life and still refuse to show His love?

What we do for others and the world remains

I am writing this on my laptop via wireless broadband sitting in my 2007 Iron Chariot. Anyone know where I can find some good horses?

I was saddened to not see my choice of what I would do.

The option I would have voted for is "I would construct a Spit and then impale myself on it, I do not want to burn unevenly. If I am to be in hell, then I hope I burn well."

That's annoying, I wanted to vote 1 and 3 but it wouldn't let me. Oh well, Iron Chariots to the rescue!

I believe we were all amateurs at one point and in many respects, may still be. Would it kill people to just give a polite answer to some new person to enlighten them rather than discourage them from asking questions to find answers that you may already have? Before meeting you McCulloch, I had never even heard of Pascals Wager. I looked it up after you mentioned it once and learned of it then. However, had I asked you what it was, would I have gotten a response such as this?

It wasn't intended to be a rebuke. I see it came out that way, I wrote it after another bout with a person I won't mention but didn't manage to hit my emotions this time. I only meant to express that for many new people like me, a lot of you guys are intimidating and it can be hard to put out questions that make us sound like idiots but it is even worse when it is confirmed that we are idiots. I was very lucky with you guys. I read this site for almost a year before I actually joined it. Even so, I still can barely compete with yours, QED, Micatala, TPP, etc.. I can't even comprehend a lot of it without looking it up (mostly the philisophical stuff). But you guys make it seem like a piece of cake and seem to say the right things at the right time in exactly the right manner. I only learn because of you and I wish everyone could gain the insight and security that you all have found. I hope to reach it. That is all I meant by it. I am sorry for the way it came out.

It was a rebuke. And a good one. Thank you. Do not be sorry.
