Here is some fun based upon another thread I started concerning the importance of Jesus' appearance:
Post, either in your avatar or in the thread text, a picture of yourself at any time of your life, or a picture of a friend of yours who looks most like your vision of Jesus.
I will donate 25 tokens to the winner toward their MPG standing.
The winner will be determined by me based upon the comments from others. If 5 or more people don't participate then the contest will be void.
It must be a picture of you or someone you actually know.
My vote, thus far is for Wizandra who I think really IS Jesus. He even writes in tongues!

My second vote would have to be a picture I have seen of Cathar holding a baby - hopefully he will publish them soon. A kind of Burl Ives meets Santa meets Jesus vibe.
I am searching through old pictures of me, but I don't look anything whatsoever like Jesus - except perhaps when I hitchhiked part way through Alaska many years ago.....

Post #2But the contest isn't fair to white people like me . . .Cmass wrote:Here is some fun based upon another thread I started concerning the importance of Jesus' appearance:

It is a first class human tragedy that people of the earth who claim to believe in the message of Jesus, whom they describe as the Prince of Peace, show little of that belief in actual practice.

I have a couple black friends, but they are all very large individuals. 1 is a body builder and the others arn't far behind (yes more police).Cmass wrote:Actually, you just said a heck of a lot:
1) Jesus was not white
2) You are white
3) All your friends are white
Next you will probably tell me you live in Idaho or Colorado or someplace like that.
And yes, Colorado is home.

[quote="Cmass"]Do any of them look like this:

Nope, but actually that is very close to what I envision Jesus as looking like in my mind's eye. A little smaller though. People were smaller back then. Perhaps about 5'6 or so but other than that, the picture is pretty close, as is the guy.
Sometime I do think that Jesus is sitting around on earth in disguise, watching us . . . watching me. Its kinda a cool thought. Ok hows that for random?

The estimate for that period based upon known skeletons of the period is that he was likely about 5'1" and 110 pounds. Probably very strong for his size since he was a carpenter and a peasant used to hard work.
He sure as hell did not look like the handsome stud Jesus Inc. insists upon selling everyone. THAT rendering is a well constructed LIE to play upon the base instincts of Christians - and it works.

A comforting thought. I have heard this before from many Christians. If he was, he would no doubt stop by a fundamentalist mega-church....and then procede to vomit uncontrollably.
So, next time you see a guy out on the street who looks like the fellow above - and he is vomiting - you will know why.

Lainey did you not put a picture there on purpose?
I would like pictures of homeless people, sick dying people, children starving, countless faces of victims suffering, and the poor even people on welfare and a caption under it "Jesus Today".
It is an idea that goes back to my Christian days when the incarnation and the gospel made sense. As I look at most American religion today, I see it as part of the problem not the solution. As I look at the emphases on the "end times" and vengeance on TV and the constant concerns for more wealth to the wealthy and anti welfare rhetoric I see just how mean they can be. So if any one can find some pictures like these you can post them as my entry and have the credit.
Here is something I wrote on anther thread that might help.

Nothing against gay but it seems our modern Jesus may be a form of homoerotic projection. The same goes with the “holy spirit” the third male in the Trinity. I hear men singing these love songs to Jesus and the spirit and I sometimes wonder why they want to be the bride of Christ. On the other hand they bash gays and say what worthless sinners every one is and unworthy of a bloody sacrifice God requires. It should make us wonder.
I almost expect a Jesus dressed like a gay SM guy dressed in black leather and a whip.
