Old Newbie

Hi!

I'm actually not a real "newbie" - I joined here a long time ago, but very shortly after, computer problems stopped me from coming here... and when I finally could, I guess I was just so busy with everything else that I just didn't think about "returning"... but, at last, here I am!

I can't remember what my old username was, and I doubt it's still active - I don't know if any of you would remember me anyway, but I guess the most important thing to say about myself is that I'm an Occultist (and once upon a time, I was a Christian). I'm not really anti anything at all, what people believe in or don't believe in is their own choice, but I do like to discuss these subjects - probably because people quite often judge me, so I feel that debating, and being able to do it in an adult, civil way, is very important for everyone to understand each other... not that I think that will ever happen, but if it did, what a lovely place this world would be :)

It would be highly unlikely your old handle is gone, i know i was away for atelast a year or so and it was still active. Anyhow, i doubt you stay long if your not one of the nuttjobs like John and Harvey :)

You do know there is no evidence for any God or gods, right? And claiming that there "could be" is like claiming that Santa Claus COULD exist. Its so much better to believe things that actually exist, makes the world more stable .. :)

Yes, we don't disagree on that.

I can prove that Santa isn't real... since I know for a fact that it was my father in disguise ... but even if I don't personally believe in a god as such, I have no proof of that. Sure, there is no proof that the tooth fairy isn't real, either... but a lot of things that is now science used to be "superstitions" - so, personally I prefer a balance between having an open mind, and still not being too naive. I don't personally believe in a personified god, but I do believe in certain things that I've seen enough to have good reason to believe is real - if you don't, that's your choice.

That's a more philosophical topic, but of the things we all agree exist, there's nothing worth "believing" in - fights and wars over religion definitely doesn't make things any better, but this world will never be stable as long as there's human beings in it. Anyway, we all have our own idea of what reality is, and in my version of reality, I don't believe in anything that isn't real ;) As a matter of fact, I believe that reality itself is an illusion we all make up in our own little heads... but that's a whole different subject.
