Headlines about child abuse in the Roman Catholic church worldwide, the LDS in the USA and in some Protestant organizations; drew one's attention to a problem that were hidden and cover-up for a long time.
Why do Roman Catholic priests abuse a child? Is celibacy the only explanation? In the LDS and in the Protestantism their is no celibacy which is a duty. And children are nevertheless abused also there.
Perhaps is the reason due to the structure of the church? The power which a priest gets in the RCC, the LDS or a Protestant church?
I would like to discuss this as a survivor of sexual violence with you.

On the one hand, it is forbidden to me to say what I think. And on the other hand some people (East of Eden, Dianaiad in particular) are here; so ignorant and blinded, that a relevant discussion is impossible. And then still this reason: I waste reluctantly my time with idiots!
You know, I feel similar. I read posts on this forum, but now I rarely reply because they are all the same. This was part of the reason I migrated here from "Rational Response Squad" forum. Only to find out that this place is equally stagnated. There, however, you can speak freely, using ANY language if there is a reason for it.
Also, I would not go personal on internet forums. People are bad, they want to poke you at the first occasion.
BTW, do you live in Berlin? I lived in Schoeneberg and near Gesundbrunnen.

Were you here as a soldier or as a Mormon missionary? I live by the way in Reinickendorf nearby the Mint. I lived in the USA in Maryland and Idaho for a long time. Unfortunately, I have lost much of the English language. since 1981 (as I had to leave the USA) I also had little opportunity to practice English.100%atheist wrote:

I by the way was neither banished nor deleted up till now. What do I have to do to reach this? Insulting somebody? E.g. by saying to East of Eden:
This is a hare-brained asshole with the intelligence of a cockroach.
Or about Dianaiad:
She is so silly, that, if stupidity would prepare pains; she would cry with pain day and night.
Do you think this is enough to the forum for ban or delete me?

Yes, I was in the (former) US zone in Berlin for a while, but I never was a soldier and never believed in a god.
I think, in order to get yourself banned from this forum, you can watch some of South Park ... about mormons, Jesus (vs. Santa), Jews, and then concentrate your new knowledge in a single Cartman-like sentence that would say ***************.....
Bad news for you, messages of banned users (previous messages) will not be deleted. But if you want to practice using f-words, a-words, m-words, etc. I saw no better place than Rational Response Squad. A typical conversation there goes like this: "I believe in God", "**** you, idiot" etc.

I'm sorry to hear that you find this forum not to your liking, Witch of Hope. I have actually been enjoying this place far more than discussing religious topics in the comment sections of Youtube and Facebook, where I tend to see the ignorance surface.
I don't feel that the abuse is directly related to the church. However, I do think that the church is the reason these individuals get away with it.
Abuse of this nature exists in everyday life. People in power can become corrupted, and they take advantage of their status to get what they want. We hear about it more often when it comes to religious power, probably for the same reason we hear about it when it occurs with people in political power. It's a defacement and an embarrassment to the group these individuals are associated with, and these groups have a choice to either expel this member, or try to cover up the situation as best as they can. When they cover it up, as allegations against the church sometimes indicate, it escalates the situation and makes the group a guilty party for condoning the acts of the perpetrator in question.
I disagree with putting the blame on the group, be it church or political party (or any other faction I may have missed here) for the acts of the sexual assailant, but I do think we should hold them accountable for stupid reactions like protecting a guilty party based on their status within the group.
