Gloves Off Sub-Forum

Post by Tired of the Nonsense »

I would like to make a motion to our ruling high deity, otseng, as well as to the rest of the DC&R membership, that a "Site Supporters" sub forum called "Gloves Off," or something equally relevant, be designated as a "gloves off" area, where site supporters only can go to hurl insults, sarcasm, rude comments about another person's parentage and the horse they rode in on, and generally be allowed to get it off of their chests. More of an open arena then a PM. This sub forum would only be available to individuals who have contributed a minimum of $20.00 to the forum, and would be good until February 1 of the next calendar year, at which time another $20.00 contribution would be required to maintain access to the new site supporters only sub forum. Such an arrangement might help to end the unfortunate number of individuals being banned from the forum, and might even actually help out otseng financially in maintaining the site. Who knows, even Joey might pony up. And then he could tell you all what he REALLY thinks of you.

A general discussion concerning what terms and limitations, or if there are to be any any such limitations in the proposed sub forum, should be undertaken and agreed on by the membership prior to the creation of such a sub forum. Those who agree with the proposal? Those who disagree?

I am new to this site; I joined because of the high standards and forum selections. A friend of mine recommended D C & R, for me to post some of my thoughts and works.

Gloves off forum to me, reminds me of a quote I sent into Readers Digest, I was 12 years old, that was 67 years ago and got $5 bucks for it.
“Four Kings went out to war one against the other.
Three where put to the sword, the fourth died of boredom

If you do start it, I am sure it will die of boredom. As for myself, I will not enter into it. Nor cross my sword of words to such a crowed that just wants to take up space for the sake of using stupid wording.

And this is the point. Such a sub forum would be an addition to the forum, not a re-definition of the entire forum. And no one would be forced to participate, so cnorman could freely ignore it to his heart's content. By it's very nature, restricted to contributing members, the reduced number of individuals eligible to participate might well kill it from lack of use. But I for one am tired of seeing all of the interesting theists being banned from the forum. I was hoping that the forum could offer, at least, a place for fundies and other theists to preach and evangelize to their hearts content, and a place for non theists to openly mock them. A place where censorship is the only dirty word, and no one is forced to participate who does not wish to participate. And it seemed like a good way to help otseng support the site financially. What is the down side, really?

I'm not interested in intentionally growing weeds in my garden, even if I get paid for it.

One person's weeds are another person's wild flowers otseng. And now Flail is leaving I see. Out of boredom I suspect. A trial run of my suggestion would have been nice, just to see how things worked out. If nothing else I would like to see the Mod's relax a bit in the "Christianity and Apologetics" sub forum. I have learned to stay under the radar for the most part, but I observe that being over moderated can be awfully stifling to "stimulating" debate. It is your forum of course, a fact which must be accepted by one and all.

Just voicing my disagreement with setting up such a subforum. Another place I used to debate had a subforum like that and it brought the whole place down as what occurred there didn't always stay there. Not only that but some people can be downright nasty and abusive. And it becomes a moderator nightmare. E.G., is racism, sexism, or hate speech tolerated? Mix that type of thing in with some of the personal information people occasionally leak on this forum and it gets very ugly.

I also highly recommend against providing personal information. If you do then do so expecting that others can and will twist it and use it against you.
Religion remains the only mode of discourse that encourages grown men and women to pretend to know things they manifestly do not know.

I think the issue has already been decided. Not gonna happen.
