Hello,
I was wondering if anyone was interested in discussing/debating the book of mormon. Please place it in the specialized debate forum. I suppose a two week time period would be enough for anyone to decide if he/she wants to take part in it. If a few people sign on we'll have it.

Murad, I like the new avatar!
So what is going to happen? Do we have a topic, could I suggest maybe places, locations, and how does it fit in with what secular study of the Americas?

When I first posted it was thinking of discussing the moral teachings. I was assuming we would start at the beginning where there is the dilema of whether Nephi should kill that guy in order to obtain the law, and then Lehi's dream and nephi's interpretation. If were starting in Ether, I don't recall any significant passages in it that have any moral lessons but it's been a while since I read it. What I hadn't planned on doing (and have no intention of doing) was attempt to determine what area of the Americas they supposedly immigrated to.
May all your naps be joyous occasions.

Problem I see here, is that this would be a discussion rather than a debate. No problem with that of course, if this is what you are looking for cause it sounds great to me.

Hello Rex,
Yes I suppose it will be a discussion. Maybe I was too hard before. If you see something in the book of mormon that indicates it happened in a certain area then go ahead and point it out.

Well one thing i find fascinating is Prophet Abinadi (who lived 150 years before Jesus) in the Book of Mosiah who prophecies about Jesus & all the doctrines with clear-cut detail that only developed as Christianity progressed (500-600 years into the future). & his quotation of Isaiah 53 is something big, there is nothing recorded down historically of the Jewish people using Isaiah 53 as a messianic prophecy before Jesus Christ.
Im still not sure on how we would go about discussing these topics, sleepyhead do you think its a good idea to make a list of topics to discuss?

Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" without being put to the test?
We have tested those before them, for GOD must distinguish those who are truthful, and He must expose the liars.

hello murad,
I agree. It would be a good idea to make a list of topics beforehand. What I don't want is the type of questions or claims which "prove" that the book of Mormon is either true or false in the sense of did the events actually happen.
Lehi's dream and interpretation: 1 nephi 8 & 11.
How does the book define priestcraft?
How does the book define the gospel?

Hello,
Another good topic we could discuss is the interchange between king Noah and Abinadi. Abinadi came preaching that the king was doing things wrong and King Noah had him killed. What actions would be proper for an individual in power when confronted by a person without power with regards to things you are doing.

Hello,
I sent a pm to otseng to close off the registration on the 30th so we can start the discussion/debate on the 1st. There doesn't appear to be anyone new signing up. Murad suggested that we discuss topics as opposed to individual books. I think that is a better idea. I think that makes a lot more sense. This way those who wanted to begin with the book of Ether can just tell us what topics had an interest for them and we can discuss it without having to read the whole book of Ether again. How do you all feel about it.
