Prayer request - Controlling emotions

Post by foshizzle »

I've always had a short temper, and it's been tested more than usual as of late, and I'm on the verge of snapping. It's starting problems at home, work, school, here, etc.

For control of my temper and, more importantly, my tongue, so I might influence non-believers (and believers alike) in a way I can be proud of, rather than ashamed of.

I think we can take comfort in knowing that to be angry is not a sin. Jesus got angry at the people selling things in the temple. God get's angry in the Old Testament. I think it's what we do with our anger that causes sin.

I too have a problem with my anger and my temper and both causing me to sin. I have become better at controlling it as I get older and now it takes a lot more to push me over the edge.

My prayers are with you both and I pray that we are all able to keep our heads, lest we give the non-believers the wrong impression of us.

Eph 4 26-27 states: BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity. (ASV)

There are situations where we really should be angry. This is normal, expected and sometimes required. If someone murdered a love one yours, there would be something wrong if you were not angry.

There are many places in the Bible where God is described as being angry. Does this mean God sins?

The big thing is how we deal with our anger. Anger can be destructive or constructive. If we bottle it up inside, we will eventually explode. We MUST release it but in a way that resolves the problem not exacerbates it. This requires wisdom gained through prayer and obedience to the Holy Spirit
I have resolved to know nothing except Christ and Him crucified.
