What Is The Purpose Of A Soul?
Post #1This is not one of those vague "meaning of life" quesiotns (at least I hope it isn't) But it is something I have never seen discussed or debated so i think it would be interesting. Anyone want to try and tackle this one?

Unsupported statements such as this are not appreciated and not within the spirit of this forum.Sender: You are looked at as the village idiot.
Certainly this kind of statement, if true, would have supporting evidence. If you have such evidence please present it so Bernee51 can respond.
Your time would be better spent in rational debate rather than whatever approach you are now using.

My experience is that the things we complain most about in others are those very things about ourselves which we despise and would change (if we could).BeHereNow wrote:Unsupported statements such as this are not appreciated and not within the spirit of this forum.Sender: You are looked at as the village idiot.

Well just let it continue turning the remaining half of the 180 degrees, and then it will have gone full circle, looking right back at you.bernee51 wrote:My experience is that the things we complain most about in others are those very things about ourselves which we despise and would change (if we could).BeHereNow wrote:Unsupported statements such as this are not appreciated and not within the spirit of this forum.Sender: You are looked at as the village idiot.

Now that's reassuring.Sender wrote: Don't get me wrong, it's not only you, it's tilia as well.

Each of our souls is the spirit we know best... but the human soul is the lowest of spirits. Gaining knowledge of one's soul opens the door to a glimpse of higher spiritual activity. The two greatest activities of our spirits are knowing and loving.

That's so true. So many times have I noted people criticizing others for the very same criticisms that have been levelled against them. There has to be a repeatable psychology in there somewhere. I'll look forward to someone slamming me with my own observation now that I've mentioned it!bernee51 wrote:My experience is that the things we complain most about in others are those very things about ourselves which we despise and would change (if we could).
But let's leave the personal stuff out of our debating (as the rules mandate). Souls are interesting items. They are (correct me if I'm wrong) an entirely human property. This is odd, because they are supposed to be a highly significant component performing a very important function, yet there is nothing in the mapping of the human genome to point towards a unique biological mechanism for them. With humans sharing 98% of our DNA with mice, such a structure (or the support for the structure) ought to stand out somewhat.
The idea that the soul transcends the body and somehow makes it to heaven suggests something more advanced than radar. Quantum teleportation has been put forward as one possible answer, but I would expect that the genetic coding for a quantum teleportation facility would be especially easy to spot over the biological coding in other animals. Or am I being too 'down-to-earth' (realistic) in my analysis?

Allow me to "send off" Sender for his biased statements against any non-christian. (apologies for the horrible pun) But my question was not whether or not there is a afterlife Sender, but what is the purpose (if there even is) of a soul. You took the debate way off topic and began damning people to hell.
So just one question. On matters of faith do you believe or know? Because if you know then who are we to deny your knowledge and facts? BUT if you believe (belief: the mental act, condition or habit of placing confidence in another) then you aren't sure and neither is anyone else in their respective beliefs.
So you have no right to say that a God will send Bernee here to hell when
A. You are not God and
B. Your statement is based on belief.
P.S. Thank God for Socrates huh?

You have missed the whole point. I am not saying it. God is saying it. Look in the Bible if you don't think it is in there. I encourage you to do that. But people who do not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior is gonna fry in hell. If you don't beieve that, then don't.Nirvana-Eld wrote: So you have no right to say that a God will send Bernee here to hell.
