Hi all,

just found this place and thought I would sign up. It seems like you can get an actual decent discussion here rather than random insults and the normal "well you will just have to burn in hell if you don't believe".

I have many questions about religion which has interested me for years . Mostly form a "how on earth can they believe something so obviously wrong" point of view.

I expect of spend most of my time in the Christianity section but who knows where it will lead to.

For the record I am a 48 year old I.T. processional. I live in the north of the U.K. and am married to a Texan who moved over here 15 years or so ago. Never believed in any sort of a god. Willing to listen to arguments against my position and if you present me proof of a god I will bow down and worship him with the rest of you. Obviously by proof I mean something in the scientific sense - not "well read this section of the bible and it will show you"

Hi Everso,

Welcome.

You UK folks let Texans in? We are careful about that even here in Arkansas. Just kidding. We lived in Texas for a couple years and liked the area 100 miles east of Dallas.

The C&A sub-forum is the most active -- a meeting ground for people of all points of view -- where the bible cannot be cited as authoritative (so arguments have to stand on their own merit -- or fall).
.
Non-Theist

ANY of the thousands of "gods" proposed, imagined, worshiped, loved, feared, and/or fought over by humans MAY exist -- awaiting verifiable evidence

Yeah - that seems to be where I am most. Though this seems to be by far one of the best site I have came across I am still having trouble getting theist to answer questions. Maybe they think I am trivializing things or maybe they just don't have answers. Still - I have learned a lot just in the few day I have been here

If I understand correctly you MARRIED one of them?? She must be quite exceptional. Just kidding. Many Texas women are very appealing -- and a lot of them know how to work to get things done.

After years of debating on the Internet, this is the ONLY site I have found to be a "level playing field" where no viewpoint is given favored status or treatment -- AND preaching in lieu of debate is not permitted (except in selected sub-forums where religious folk are free to preach to one another).

Many questions are VERY difficult for Biblicists, Fundamentalists, and Literalists to answer without admitting that what they propose is nothing more than personal preference, opinion, conjecture, or tales from ancient storytellers and religious promoters. Such admission acknowledges that one cannot debate emotion against reasoning.

Many seem to regard questions as a "trap" -- when they cannot provide a rational answer. You'll get used to it if you hang around. Remember that unanswered questions are apparent to intelligent, discerning READERS (who are the real audience for what is written in these threads. Many have never encountered reasoned opposition to religious propaganda and pronouncements.
Everso wrote:Maybe they think I am trivializing things or maybe they just don't have answers. Still -
The latter most often in my opinion. A charge of "trivializing" or "out of context" or "poor translation" are smokescreen to conceal lack of coherent answer.

One of the foremost things I have learned is respect for Thinking Theists -- who are often allied with Non-Theists to oppose Biblicists / Fundamentalists / Literalists and Fanatical Believers / Worshipers of any of the thousands of proposed "gods".
