What do you like to do?

Post by DavidBG »

Hello, some of you might know me, David from the forum. I am a Christian YEC.

I was wondering what some of your hobbies are. Here are some of mine:

I am a fencer. I really enjoy this sport.
I love chess. I am not as good at this as I am at fencing due to it's recursive depth, but it is still fun.
I am a particular fan of shooting. I have several guns, all of I which I can shoot at moderate levels of accuracy. I am not exactly a hunter, more of a target-shooter. My favourite challenge is shooting clay-trap targets with a pistol.
Biology, Cosmology, and mathematics.
Finally, I'll mention computer programming, particularly science simulations.

And of course, debate. ;)

So what do you like?

When I lived in the country -- Coryell County, out in the BOONS, central Texas -- we had a DARK sky and I spent many nights outside with my little reflector and loved it. I was hoping to get a humongous Dobsonian someday, but now I live in Dallas and am doing well to see fricken Orion on a clear night. Someday I'll get into it again.
Ahh, aperture fever, eh? :P
A cheap dobsonian can work nicely in a city, though. It's surprising.

I'll look into it. There's a telescope shop near where I live called "The Observatory." I hang out there and drool from time to time. About the only thing I miss about living in the boondocks is the sky.

And the silence. And the animals. And...

Ah, hell. The only things I DON'T miss are my ex-wife and the bugs. It's still kinda cool in the city, though -- you dial a number on the phone, and a guy will bring a pizza to your door. Far out.

I've always wanted to look into astronomy... I would have looked into it as a career even, if I wasn't physics-impaired.

Physics and astronomy aren't necessarily intertwined.
You just need to know the physics of light, and you're sorted.

They are if you look at the career, at least in the only university worth your time that we have here. Physics 1, Physics 2, Physics 3... "3" is a big, scary number when it's next to "Physics".

Amateur astronomy would be fun, but my city is so big, shiny and polluted that I doubt I could see a thing :? Dumb progress...

You could see more than you think.

Also, you've got some awesome stuff down there, like the Magellanic clouds and the Galactic centre. :P

Always wanted to see the Southern Cross -- ever since Stephen Stills sang about it.

That's almost always visible here. That and The three Marys (Orion's Belt) are the most well-known constellations.

I'll have a lovely clear view or Orion when I get home in December. That's going to be tasty.

Well, some of my hobbies are collecting weapons. (REAL WEAPONS!) Not those nerdy Lord of the rings swords. Im talking .50 cal, FN Scar, FN 2000, Rock Rivers ect. I also like knifes, I love the SOG Navy Seal series, sick set of knives. I also play football and rugby all the time, and weight lifting is on the side of that. I also like to learn more about philosophy and religion which is why I joined here, so I could learn more without the biases found in the society where I live.

BUT!

My favorite all time hobby is Hunting! There is a satisfaction I get from living by my own means and not by living of some grocery store. Plus Elk meat tastes great and is the leanest meat you can get, so lean there is almost no fat! I dont like fat on my meat but some people do so yeah. Thats about it 8-)
